Question 359: Should a menstruating woman who becomes ritually impure (junub) perform a ritual bath (ghusl)?

Answer
✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 100
Translation: Muhammad ibn Muslim said:
I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a menstruating woman: 'Should she perform ghusl on Friday and remember God?'
He said: 'As for ritual purification (meaning ghusl), no.'
However, at the time of prayer, she should perform ablution (wudu), face the qibla, and remember God.
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 83
Translation: Sa'id ibn Yasar said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him: 'A woman sees blood (menstruation) while she is ritually impure (junub). Should she perform the ghusl of ritual impurity, or is the ghusl of ritual impurity and menstruation one and the same (performed together)?' The Imam said: 'Something that is greater (than ritual impurity, i.e., menstruation) has reached her.'
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 83
Translation: Kahili said: 'I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a woman who is approached by her husband and she starts menstruating while she is in the place of ghusl. Should she perform ghusl or not?' The Imam said: 'Something has reached her that invalidates prayer, so she should not perform ghusl.'
📚 Al-Tahdheeb, vol. 1, p. 395
Translation: Imam Baqir, peace be upon him, said: 'When a woman becomes menstruating while she is ritually impure (junub), one ghusl is sufficient for her.'
📚 Al-Tahdheeb, vol. 1, p. 395
Translation: Hajjaj said: 'I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a man who has intercourse with his wife and when he is finished, she starts to menstruate. Should she perform one ghusl when she becomes pure (from menstruation) or should she perform two ghusls?' The Imam said: 'When she becomes pure (from menstruation), she performs one ghusl.'
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 83
Translation: Abdullah ibn Sinan said: 'I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a woman who begins to menstruate while she is ritually impure (junub). Is the ghusl of ritual impurity her responsibility?' He said: 'The ghusl of ritual impurity and the ghusl of menstruation are one and the same (performed together when she becomes pure from menstruation).'
✅ From the above narrations, it is clear that during the days of menstruation, no ghusl is the responsibility of the woman, even if it is Friday or she became ritually impure before menstruation, and whether she became ritually impure during menstruation due to sleep or something else. A menstruating woman who is also ritually impure fulfills her duty by performing one ghusl when she becomes pure from menstruation.
✅ The ablution that a menstruating woman performs at the time of prayer and occupies herself with the remembrance of God is merely an instruction and a duty. This ablution does not make permissible for the woman things that require ablution, such as touching the verses of the Qur'an, praying, and so on.
A menstruating woman who is in a state of major ritual impurity.
A menstruating woman does not have to perform the ghusl of Friday.
