Question 357: Is there any narrational evidence for turning a ring toward the palm of the hand during the qunut in prayer?
Answer
✅Answer: No narration has been observed from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) that indicates turning a ring toward the palm of the hand. This practice has no basis:
[1]: Al-Nisa', verse 80
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 18
Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'The high position, the peak of the matter, its key, the door of all things, and the pleasure of the All-Merciful, is obedience to the Imam after knowing him. Indeed, Allah (the Exalted and Glorious) says: 'And whoever obeys the Messenger has certainly obeyed Allah; and whoever turns away, We have not sent you as a guardian over them.' Be aware that if a person spends his night in prayer, fasts his day, gives all his wealth in charity, and performs Hajj throughout his life, but does not know the wilayah (guardianship) of the Wali of Allah, so that he makes him his wali and all his actions are based on the guidance of that Wali of Allah, he has no true reward from Allah and is not among the people of faith...'
✅It is observed that alongside knowing the Imam (peace be upon him), it is necessary for all actions to be based on the guidance of the Imam and the Wali of Allah. And since our masters (peace be upon them) have not instructed us to turn the ring toward the palm of the hand during the qunut of prayer, we should abstain from this action.
✅However, in two situations, narrations have been reported from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) about turning the ring toward the palm of the hand, which are presented to the lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them):
📚 'Uddat al-Da'i, p. 118
Translation: It is narrated from Imam Reza (peace be upon him) that he said: 'Whoever wakes up in the morning wearing a ring with a carnelian stone on his right hand, and in the morning, before anyone sees him, he turns its stone toward his palm and recites Surah al-Qadr to the end, and then says:'
'Allah will protect him from the evil of what descends from the heavens on that day and from the evil of what ascends to the heavens and from the evil of what enters the earth and from the evil of what comes out of the earth, and he will be in the protection and refuge of Allah and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until evening.'
📚 Makarim al-Akhlaq, p. 374
Translation: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever leaves his house and turns his ring toward his palm and recites Surah al-Qadr and then says:'
'On that day, he will not see anything he dislikes.'
✅Insha'Allah, let us make all our actions consistent with the instructions of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and based on the guidance of our Uli al-Amr. Let us refrain from turning the ring toward the palm of the hand during the qunut of prayer. Instead, if we wish, we can perform this action in the two aforementioned cases—in the morning before anyone sees us and when leaving the house—with the complete etiquette and supplications mentioned in the text of the narration, and benefit from its blessings. Insha'Allah.
4️⃣ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Whoever holds on to my Sunnah during the discord of my Ummah will have the reward of one hundred martyrs.'
