Question 311: Is it permissible to perform wudu while walking?

439 views 13 Feb 2021

Answer

✅Answer: To prohibit performing wudu while walking, a specific or general text is needed, which has not been observed. It is absolute because:

📚 Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 317

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Everything is absolute (permissible) until a prohibition is mentioned regarding it.'

✅However, what is important in this regard and must be observed includes the following narrations:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 34

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'Perform your wudu consecutively.'

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 35

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'When you have performed a part of your wudu and a need or task arises for you to the point that your wudu dries, then repeat your wudu, for wudu is not done in parts (it is not done separately).'

📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 87

Translation: Mu'awiyah ibn Ammar said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'Sometimes I am busy performing wudu and the water runs out, so I call the maidservant (to bring water) and she delays and comes late until my wudu dries;' the Imam said: 'Repeat your wudu (perform it from the beginning).'

📚 Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 60

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'If you forgot to wipe your head, wipe your head and feet with the (remaining) moisture of your wudu,' up to the point where he said: 'If no moisture from your wudu remains, you must repeat your wudu.'

✅Based on the above narrations, if walking during wudu leads to segregation and separation of the parts of wudu from each other in such a way that the previously washed parts dry, then because of the drying of the wudu, the wudu must be repeated. But simply walking during wudu, provided that it does not cause any defect to the other limits of wudu, is not prohibited.
