✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following ahadith:

1 أبی یحیی الواسطی رفعه قال: مَرَّ أَمِیرالْمُؤْمِنِین بِالْقَصَّابِینَ فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنْ بَیْعِ سَبْعَةِ أَشْیَاء مِنَ الشَّاةِ نَهَاهُمْ عَنْ بَیْعِ الدَّمِ و الْغُدَدِ و آذَانِ الْفُؤَادِ و الطِّحَالِ و النُّخَاع و الْخُصَی و الْقَضِیب

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 253

The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) passed by the butchers and forbade them from selling seven things from the sheep: He forbade them from selling blood, glands, heart ears (auricles), spleen, spinal cord, testicles, and the penis!

2 Isma'il ibn Marar reported from them (the Imams) that they said: From what is in camels, cattle, sheep, and other halal-meat animals, the following are not to be eaten: the vulva with what is inside and outside of it, the penis, the testicles, the placenta (which is the womb), the spleen because it is blood, the glands along with veins, the marrow/cord that is in the spine (i.e. spinal cord), the gall bladder, the pupil of the eye, the bead-like gland in the brain, and blood.

Isma'il reported from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) that they said: From what is in camels, cattle, sheep, and other halal-meat animals, the following are not to be eaten: the vulva with what is inside and outside of it, the penis, the testicles, the placenta which is the womb, the spleen because it is blood, the glands along with the veins, the spinal cord, the gall bladder, the pupil of the eye, the bead-like gland in the brain, and blood.

3 عن أبی عبداللَّه قال: لا یُؤْکَلُ مِنَ الشَّاةِ عَشَرَةُ أَشْیَاءَ الْفَرْثُ و الدَّمُ و الطِّحَالُ و النُّخَاعُ و الْغُدَدُ وَ الْقَضِیبُ وَ الْأُنْثَیَیْنِ وَ الرَّحِمُ وَ الْحَیَاءُ وَ الْأَوْدَاجُ أَوْ قَالَ الْعُرُوق

📚 Al-Khisal, p. 434

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Ten parts of a sheep are not eaten: dung, blood, spleen, spinal cord, glands, penis, testicles, womb, vulva, and jugular veins or he said: veins!

4 قَالَ أَبَانٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ یُکْرَهُ مِنَ الذَّبِیحَةِ عَشَرَةُ أَشْیَاءَ مِنْهَا الطِّحَالُ وَ الْأُنْثَیَانِ وَ النُّخَاعُ وَ الدَّمُ وَ الْجِلْدُ وَ الْعَظْمُ وَ الْقَرْنُ وَ الظِّلْفُ وَ الْغُدَدُ وَ الْمَذَاکِیرُ

📚 'Ilal al-Shara'i', Vol. 2, p. 562

In a hadith, Aban ibn 'Uthman says: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Ten things from a slaughtered animal are abominable, among which are the spleen, testicles, spinal cord, blood, skin, bones, horns, hooves, glands, and penis!

✅ In the above narrations and others, it is observed that eating certain parts of a slaughtered halal-meat animal has been specifically prohibited.

✅ One of the items whose eating is prohibited and forbidden in the above ahadith is the spinal cord.

The spinal cord is a white cord-like thread that starts from the neck and continues down to the lower back.

Therefore, the white cord inside the neck of a chicken, sheep, etc., is the spinal cord itself, eating which is haram (forbidden), and it must be separated from the slaughtered animal and discarded.
