Question 2037: At what time of the day on the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah can a pilgrim leave Mina and go to Mecca?

✅ Answer: Consider the following hadiths:
1 عَنْ مُعَاوِیَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (علیه السلام) قَالَ: إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَنْفِرَ فِی یَوْمَیْنِ فَلَیْسَ لَکَ أَنْ تَنْفِرَ حَتَّی تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ......

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If you wish to depart from Mina towards Mecca on the 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, you cannot depart until the decline of the sun (i.e., midday/Zawal) occurs...
2 عَنِ الْحَلَبِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (علیه السلام) قَالَ: مَنْ تَعَجَّلَ فِی یَوْمَیْنِ فَلَا یَنْفِرْ حَتَّی تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ فَإِنْ أَدْرَکَهُ الْمَسَاءُ بَاتَ وَ لَمْ یَنْفِرْ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Whoever hastens after two days (and leaves on the 12th day), he shall not depart from Mina towards Mecca until the decline of the sun and midday arrives; and if he remains in Mina until evening comes, he shall spend the night (of the 13th) in Mina and shall not depart from Mina towards Mecca!
✅ According to the above hadiths and others, if a pilgrim does not belong to the groups obligated to spend the 13th night in Mina and wishes to leave Mina for Mecca on the 12th day, they must wait until the decline of the sun and midday of the 12th day, and then leave Mina before sunset. If they delay departure until sunset of the 12th day arrives, they must remain in Mina and spend the 13th night there as well.
