✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following traditions:

1 عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ الْجُعْفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: مَنِ اسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ سَبْعِینَ مَرَّةً غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَ لَوْ عَمِلَ ذَلِکَ الْیَوْمَ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ ذَنْبٍ وَ مَنْ عَمِلَ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ ذَنْبٍ فَلَا خَیْرَ فِیهِ.

📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 198

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever seeks forgiveness (Istighfar) seventy times after the Fajr prayer, Allah the Almighty will forgive him, even if he commits more than seventy thousand sins on that day, and there is no good in the one who commits more than seventy thousand sins!'

📚 Amali of al-Saduq, p. 211

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever seeks forgiveness (Istighfar) from Allah the Almighty seventy times after the Asr prayer, Allah will forgive seven hundred of his sins on that day!'

✅ Considering the above and other traditions, seeking forgiveness seventy times has been narrated as being done both after the Fajr prayer and after the Asr prayer.

3 عَنْ یَاسِرٍ الْخَادِمِ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: مَثَلُ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ مَثَلُ وَرَقٍ عَلَی شَجَرَةٍ تُحَرَّکُ فَیَتَنَاثَرُ وَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرُ مِنْ ذَنْبٍ وَ یَفْعَلُهُ کَالْمُسْتَهْزِئِ بِرَبِّهِ.

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: 'The example of Istighfar is like the leaves on a tree being shaken and falling. And he who seeks forgiveness for a sin while he is still committing it is like someone who mocks and ridicules his Lord!'
