1 عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: أَقَلُّ مَا يَكُونُ الْحَيْضُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَ أَكْثَرُهُ مَا يَكُونُ عَشَرَةُ أَيَّامٍ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 75

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The minimum duration of menstruation is three days, and the maximum is ten days!

2 عَنْ دَاوُدَ مَوْلَی أَبِی الْمَغْرَاءِ الْعِجْلِیِّ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَحِیضُ ثُمَّ یَمْضِی وَقْتُ طُهْرِهَا وَ هِیَ تَرَی الدَّمَ قَالَ فَقَالَ تَسْتَظْهِرُ بِیَوْمٍ إِنْ کَانَ حَیْضُهَا دُونَ الْعَشَرَةِ أَیَّامٍ فَإِنِ اسْتَمَرَّ الدَّمُ فَهِیَ مُسْتَحَاضَةٌ الْحَدِیثَ.

The narrator says: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a woman who is menstruating, and her time of purity has passed, but she still sees blood. The Imam said: If her menstruation is less than ten days, she should exercise caution for one day. If the bleeding continues, she is considered to have Istihada (non-menstrual bleeding).

3 عَنْ عَبْداللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَةِ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: إِذَا کَانَتْ أَیَّامُ الْمَرْأَةِ عَشَرَةً لَمْ تَسْتَظْهِرْ فَإِذَا کَانَتْ أَقَلَّ اسْتَظْهَرَتْ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If a woman's menstruation period is ten days, she does not need to exercise caution. If it is less, she should exercise caution.

4 عَنْ عَبْداللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَةِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ فِی الْمَرْأَةِ الَّتِی تَرَی الدَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنْ کَانَ قُرْؤُهَا دُونَ الْعَشَرَةِ انْتَظَرَتِ الْعَشَرَةَ وَ إِنْ کَانَتْ أَیَّامُهَا عَشَرَةً لَمْ تَسْتَظْهِرْ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about a woman who sees blood: If her menstrual period is less than ten days, she should wait for ten days. If her period is ten days, she does not need to exercise caution.

5 عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی نَصْرٍ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْحَائِضِ کَمْ تَسْتَظْهِرُ فَقَالَ تَسْتَظْهِرُ بِیَوْمٍ أَوْ یَوْمَیْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٍ.

Ibn Abi Nasr says: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about a menstruating woman, and how long she should exercise caution (if the menstrual bleeding continues)? She should exercise caution for one, two, or three days!

6 عَنْ یُونُسَ بْنِ یَعْقُوبَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ امْرَأَةٌ رَأَتِ الدَّمَ فِی حَیْضِهَا حَتَّی تَجَاوَزَ وَقْتُهَا مَتَی یَنْبَغِی لَهَا أَنْ تُصَلِّیَ قَالَ تَنْظُرُ عِدَّتَهَا الَّتِی کَانَتْ تَجْلِسُ ثُمَّ تَسْتَظْهِرُ بِعَشَرَةِ أَیَّامٍ....

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 402

Yunus ibn Yaqub says: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): A woman sees blood during her menstruation until it exceeds the time of purity! When is it appropriate for her to pray? The Imam said: She should wait the number of days she was not praying, and then she should exercise caution for a maximum of ten days....!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, the maximum duration of menstruation is ten days. If a woman's menstrual bleeding continues after her usual menstrual period, she should wait until one of two conditions is met:

1. The menstrual bleeding stops.

2. Her total days reach ten days.

Upon the fulfillment of either of these, she is obligated to perform Ghusl (ritual bathing) and pray. If ten days pass and the menstrual bleeding still continues, she has the ruling of Istihada and must act according to the rules of Istihada.

✅ It should be noted that a menstruating woman exercises caution and delays Ghusl and prayer until ten days are complete only if the continuing blood has the characteristics of menstrual blood. If it is Istihada bleeding, she is obligated to perform Ghusl and prayer and act according to the rules of Istihada.
