Answer
✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narration:
📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 89
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you visit Aba Abdillah (peace be upon him), visit him while sorrowful, grieving, disheveled, dusty, hungry, and thirsty, for Husayn (peace be upon him) was killed sorrowful, grieving, disheveled, dusty, hungry, and thirsty. Request your needs from (Imam Husayn) and then leave, and do not take it as your homeland!
✅ The above hadith, with slight variations, is also narrated in 📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 587, 📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 6, p. 76, and 📚 Kamil al-Ziyarat, p. 131.
📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 6, p. 46
Abu Jarud said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) asked me: How far is the distance between you and the grave of Abi Abdillah? I said: A day and a bit! The Imam said: If the distance from us was like yours, we would make it our place of migration (we would migrate and settle near the grave of Abu Abdillah al-Husayn, peace be upon him)!
📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 114
Abu Jarud said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) asked me: How far is the distance between you and Husayn (peace be upon him)? I said: One day by riding, and a day and a bit by walking! The Imam said: Do you go to him every Friday (or every week)? I said: I sometimes go to him! The Imam said: How unjust you are! Know that if it were near us, we would make it our place of migration, meaning we would migrate there!
✅ In the first narration, it is observed that the Imam (peace be upon him) prohibits the pilgrim from making the shrine of Imam Husayn (peace be upon him) their homeland. The reason for this prohibition is unclear, and possibilities such as taqiyya (dissimulation) mentioned in some commentaries are not certain.
In the second and third narrations, which are essentially the same hadith, the Imam states that if we were in areas close to Karbala, we would migrate and settle near Imam Husayn (peace be upon him).
Other hadiths referenced in this matter do not directly relate to this issue, and we lack more specific narrations on this topic.
Thus, based on the apparent meaning of the above narrations:
The pilgrim should return to their homeland after the days of their pilgrimage and not make Karbala their homeland.
However, those living near Karbala, if they migrate and settle in Karbala, it holds merit and virtue.
✅ Any Shia who is eager for more specific hadiths beyond what is found in Shia hadith collections should strive to frequently recite the following supplication:
