1⃣قَالَ الصَّادِقُ علیه السلام: إِذَا أَرَدْتَ سَفَراً فَلَا تَضَعْ رِجْلَكَ فِی الرِّكَابِ حَتَّی تُقَدِّمَ بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ صَدَقَةً قَلَّ أَمْ كَثُرَ قَالَ الْمُعَلَّی بْنُ خُنَیْسٍ قُلْتُ یَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ كَمِ الْقَلِیلُ وَ كَمِ الْكَثِیرُ قَالَ مَا بَیْنَ الرَّغِیفِ فَصَاعِداً وَ كُلَّمَا أَكْثَرْتَ صَدَقَتَكَ كَانَ أَقْضَی لِحَاجَتِكَ.

📚 Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 76, p. 242

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you intend to travel, do not put your foot in the stirrup until you give some charity—whether little or much—before you.

Mu’alla ibn Khunays said: I asked, 'O son of the Messenger of Allah! How little is little, and how much is much?' He replied: From a single piece of bread upwards, and the more you give in charity, the better your need will be fulfilled!

2⃣عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ وَقْتَ إِفْطَارِهِ عَلَی مِسْکِینٍ بِرَغِیفٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ ذَنْبَهُ وَ کَتَبَ لَهُ ثَوَابَ عِتْقِ رَقَبَةٍ مِنْ وُلْدِ إِسْمَاعِیلَ.

📚 Fada’il al-Ashhur al-Thalatha, p. 96, hadith 80

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: Whoever gives a piece of bread as charity at the time of breaking fast, Allah will forgive his sins and grant him the reward of freeing a slave from the descendants of Ismail!

3⃣عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ آبَائِهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَدَقَةُ رَغِیفٍ خَیْرٌ مِنْ نُسُکٍ مَهْزُولَةٍ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrated from his forefathers that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Giving a piece of bread in charity is better than sacrificing a lean animal!

4⃣عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِکِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ أَمِیرَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ سُئِلَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ نَذَرَ وَ لَمْ یُسَمِّ شَیْئاً قَالَ إِنْ شَاءَ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَیْنِ وَ إِنْ شَاءَ صَامَ یَوْماً وَ إِنْ شَاءَ تَصَدَّقَ بِرَغِیفٍ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 463

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about someone who made a vow but did not specify what to offer; the Imam said: If he wishes, he can perform two units of prayer, or fast for a day, or give a piece of bread as charity!

5⃣عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا أَنِّی أُصِبْتُ بِابْنَیْنِ وَ بَقِیَ لِی بُنَیٌّ صَغِیرٌ فَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ حِینَ حَضَرَ قِیَامِی مُرِ الصَّبِیَّ فَلْیَتَصَدَّقْ بِیَدِهِ بِالْکِسْرَةِ وَ الْقَبْضَةِ وَ الشَّیْءِ وَ إِنْ قَلَّ فَإِنَّ کُلَّ شَیْءٍ یُرَادُ بِهِ اللَّهُ وَ إِنْ قَلَّ بَعْدَ أَنْ تَصْدُقَ النِّیَّةُ فِیهِ عَظِیمٌ...

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 4

Muhammad said: I informed Imam Reza (peace be upon him) that I lost two of my sons and only one small son remains with me. The Imam said: Give charity on his behalf!

Then when I was about to leave, the Imam said: Instruct the child himself to give a piece of bread or a handful of food or anything—even small—as charity with his own hand, because anything given sincerely for the sake of Allah is considered great, even if it is little!

6⃣عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ جَهْمٍ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ لِإِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ ذَکَرَ لَهُ ابْنَهُ صَدِّقْ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ قَالَ فَمُرْهُ أَنْ یَتَصَدَّقَ وَ لَوْ بِالْکِسْرَةِ مِنَ الْخُبْزِ....

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 6

Imam Kazim (peace be upon him), when Isma'il ibn Muhammad mentioned his son, said: Give charity on his behalf! He said: He is a grown man! The Imam replied: Instruct him to give charity—even if just a piece of bread!

✅ From the above narrations and others, it is observed that giving bread—even a small piece—as charity is highly recommended, both specifically and generally, and there is no narration suggesting that giving bread in charity causes poverty.
