Question 2034: Where is the Hateem?

✅ Answer: Consider the following narrations:

📚 Iqaab al-A'maal, p. 244

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said in a narration: The most virtuous piece of land is between the Black Stone, the Station of Ibrahim, and the door of the Kaaba, which is the Hateem of Ismail...

2⃣ From Zurarah, from him (peace be upon him) in a narration, he said: The Hateem is opposite the door.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 526

In a narration, Zurarah reported from the Imam (peace be upon him) that he said: The Hateem is opposite the door (of the Kaaba)!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 525

Hasan ibn Jahm says: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about the most virtuous place in Masjid al-Haram to pray. The Imam said: It is the Hateem, which is between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaaba!

I said: Where is the next most virtuous place? The Imam mentioned: At the Station of Ibrahim!

I said: And after that, where is the most virtuous? He said: In the Hijr of Ismail!

I said: And after that? He said: Wherever is closer to the Kaaba!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 525

Abu Ubaydah says: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Is prayer equal in all parts of the Haram? The Imam said: Prayer is not even equal in all parts of Masjid al-Haram, so how could it be equal throughout the entire Haram?! I said: Which part of it is the most virtuous? He said: Between the door and the Black Stone!

📚 Mustatrafat al-Sarair, p. 66

Dawud Sarmi says: I asked Imam Hadi (peace be upon him) about prayer in Mecca, where is the most virtuous place? He said: At the original place of the Station of Ibrahim, for it is the station of Ibrahim, Ismail, and Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, the Hateem is the most virtuous part of Mecca and Masjid al-Haram, located between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaaba, or opposite the door, or between the Black Stone, the Station of Ibrahim, and the door of the Kaaba.

However, the Station of Ibrahim mentioned in the above narrations refers to its original location, which was attached to the Kaaba.

With this in mind, to pray in the Hateem, one should stand between the Black Stone and the point opposite the current Station of Ibrahim on the Kaaba’s wall, particularly opposite the door of the Kaaba.

✅ However, some consider the current Station of Ibrahim as the reference and define the Hateem as a triangle formed by three points: one at the Black Stone, one at the far right end of the Kaaba’s door, and one at the current Station of Ibrahim, which does not align with some narrations.
