✅ Answer: Consider the following narrations:

1⃣عن صفوان بن یحیی قال: سَأَلْتُ أَبَاالْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْمَمَرِّ فِی مُؤَخَّرِ مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَ لَا أُسَلِّمَ عَلَی النَّبِیِّ فَقَالَ لَمْ یَکُنْ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ یَصْنَعُ ذَلِکَ قُلْتُ فَیَدْخُلُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَیُسَلِّمُ مِنْ بَعِیدٍ وَ لَا یَدْنُو مِنَ الْقَبْرِ فَقَالَ لَا ثُمَّ قَالَ سَلِّمْ عَلَیْهِ حِینَ تَدْخُلُ وَ حِینَ تَخْرُجُ وَ مِنْ بَعِیدٍ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 552

Safwan says: I asked Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) about omitting the greeting to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) when passing by the end of Masjid an-Nabawi. The Imam said: Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) does not do this!

I said: A person enters the mosque and greets from a distance without approaching the grave? (How is that)? He said: No!

Then the Imam said: When you enter the mosque and when you exit the mosque, greet him from a distance!

2⃣عن معاویة بن عمار قال: قال أبوعبداللَّه فی حدیث فَإِذَا دَخَلْتَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلِّ عَلَی النَّبِیِّ وَ إِذَا خَرَجْتَ فَاصْنَعْ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ وَ أَکْثِرْ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ فِی مَسْجِدِ الرَّسُولُ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a narration: When you enter Masjid an-Nabawi, send salutations upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), and do the same when you exit, and pray abundantly in the Mosque of the Messenger!

3⃣عن أحمد بن محمد بن أبی نصر قال: قلت لأبی الحسن کَیْفَ السَّلَامُ عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ عِنْدَ قَبْرِهِ فَقَالَ قُلِ السَّلَامُ عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا حَبِیبَ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا صَفْوَةَ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا أَمِینَ اللَّهِ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّکَ قَدْ نَصَحْتَ لِأُمَّتِکَ وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِی سَبِیلِ اللَّهِ وَ عَبَدْتَهُ حَتَّی أَتَاکَ الْیَقِینُ فَجَزَاکَ اللَّهُ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَی نَبِیّاً عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّیْتَ عَلَی إِبْرَاهِیمَ وَ آلِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ إِنَّکَ حَمِیدٌ مَجِیدٌ.

Ahmad says: I said to Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him): What is the manner of greeting the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) at his grave? The Imam said: Say:

السَّلَامُ عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا حَبِیبَ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا صَفْوَةَ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْکَ یَا أَمِینَ اللَّهِ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّکَ قَدْ نَصَحْتَ لِأُمَّتِکَ وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِی سَبِیلِ اللَّهِ وَ عَبَدْتَهُ حَتَّی أَتَاکَ الْیَقِینُ فَجَزَاکَ اللَّهُ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَی نَبِیّاً عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّیْتَ عَلَی إِبْرَاهِیمَ وَ آلِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ إِنَّکَ حَمِیدٌ مَجِیدٌ.

4⃣عن محمد بن مسعود قال رَأَیْتُ أَبَا عَبْداللَّهِ انْتَهَی إِلَی قَبْرِ النَّبِیِّ فَوَضَعَ یَدَهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ قَالَ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِی اجْتَبَاکَ وَ اخْتَارَکَ وَ هَدَاکَ وَ هَدَی بِکَ أَنْ یُصَلِّیَ عَلَیْکَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَ مَلائِکَتَهُ یُصَلُّونَ عَلَی النَّبِیِّ یا أَیُّهَا الَّذِینَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَیْهِ وَ سَلِّمُوا تَسْلِیماً.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 552

Muhammad ibn Mas'ud says: I saw Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) approach the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), place his hand on it, and say:

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِی اجْتَبَاکَ وَ اخْتَارَکَ وَ هَدَاکَ وَ هَدَی بِکَ أَنْ یُصَلِّیَ عَلَیْکَ

Then he said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَ مَلائِکَتَهُ یُصَلُّونَ عَلَی النَّبِیِّ یا أَیُّهَا الَّذِینَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَیْهِ وَ سَلِّمُوا تَسْلِیماً

5⃣عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ أَنَّ أَبَا عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ لَهُمْ مُرُّوا بِالْمَدِینَةِ فَسَلِّمُوا عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ مِنْ قَرِیبٍ وَ إِنْ کَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ تَبْلُغُهُ مِنْ بَعِیدٍ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 552

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Pass through Medina and greet the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) from close by, although the greetings of the believers reach him even from afar!

6⃣ Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Whoever greets me from any place on earth, it is conveyed to me, and whoever greets me at my grave, I hear it!
