1⃣عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: خَمْسَةٌ لَا يُعْطَوْنَ مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ شَيْئاً الْأَبُ وَ الْأُمُ وَ الْوَلَدُ وَ الْمَمْلُوكُ وَ الْمَرْأَةُ وَ ذَلِكَ أَنَّهُمْ عِيَالُهُ لَازِمُونَ لَهُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 552

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Five types of people cannot receive anything from obligatory zakat: father, mother, child, slave, and permanent wife. The reason is that these individuals are dependent on him, and their sustenance (nafaqah) is his obligation!'

2⃣ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا يَرْفَعُونَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: خَمْسَةٌ لَا يُعْطَوْنَ مِنَ الزَّكَاةِ الْوَلَدُ وَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَ الْمَرْأَةُ وَ الْمَمْلُوكُ لِأَنَّهُ يُجْبَرُ عَلَى النَّفَقَةِ عَلَيْهِمْ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Zakat cannot be given to five individuals: child, father, mother, permanent wife, and slave, because he is obligated to provide for them.'

3⃣عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ مَنِ الَّذِي أُجْبَرُ عَلَيْهِ وَ تَلْزَمُنِي نَفَقَتُهُ قَالَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَ الْوَلَدُ وَ الزَّوْجَةُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 13

Hariz said: 'I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Who are the individuals I am obligated to provide sustenance (nafaqah) for?' The Imam replied: 'Father, mother, child, and wife.'

✅ From the Shi'a narrations mentioned above, it is clear that providing for one's wife and children is a mandatory duty for a man. The sustenance (nafaqah) received by the wife and children is their rightful due from lawful wealth. Therefore, even if the man does not fulfill his other financial obligations, his wife and children are not religiously prohibited from using this money. However, the man himself remains accountable before God for his financial responsibilities.
