✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1⃣عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ حَرِیزٍ عَنْ أَبِی بَصِیرٍ وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ أَنَّهُمَا قَالا لَهُ هَذِهِ الْأَرْضُ الَّتِی یُزَارِعُ أَهْلُهَا مَا تَرَی فِیهَا فَقَالَ کُلُّ أَرْضٍ دَفَعَهَا إِلَیْکَ السُّلْطَانُ فَمَا حَرَثْتَهُ فِیهَا فَعَلَیْکَ فِیمَا أَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ مِنْهَا الَّذِی قَاطَعَکَ عَلَیْهِ وَ لَیْسَ عَلَی جَمِیعِ مَا أَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ مِنْهَا الْعُشْرُ إِنَّمَا عَلَیْکَ الْعُشْرُ فِیمَا یَحْصُلُ فِی یَدِکَ بَعْدَ مُقَاسَمَتِهِ لَکَ.

Abu Basir and Muhammad ibn Muslim asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): 'What is your opinion on land cultivated under a **muzara‘ah** (sharecropping) contract?' The Imam replied: 'For any land that the ruler grants to you, whatever you cultivate in it, the zakat is only due on the portion that is your share according to the contract. You are not responsible for zakat on the entire yield that Allah brings forth. Rather, zakat is only due on what remains in your possession after the harvest is divided.'

✅ Based on the above narration, if a piece of land is cultivated under a **muzara‘ah** agreement for a crop that is subject to zakat, the zakat is only due on the portion that remains with the farmer after the harvest is divided, not on the entire crop.

Accordingly, after harvesting wheat or barley, the share owed to Astan Quds is given first, and zakat is paid on the remaining portion based on the method of irrigation—either one-tenth or one-twentieth.
