1⃣عَنْ عَبْداللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْداللَّهِ قَضَی أَمِیرُالْمُؤْمِنِینَ أَنَّ الْفِرْیَةَ ثَلَاثٌ یَعْنِی ثَلَاثَ وُجُوهٍ إِذَا رَمَی الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ بِالزِّنَا وَ إِذَا قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّهُ زَانِیَةٌ وَ إِذَا دَعَا لِغَیْرِ أَبِیهِ فَذَلِکَ فِیهِ حَدٌّ ثَمَانُونَ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) ruled that slander has three types: accusing a man of adultery, claiming his mother committed adultery, or attributing him to someone other than his father. In these cases, the punishment is eighty lashes!

2⃣عن عَبَّادٍ الْبَصْرِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: إِذَا قَذَفَ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ فَقَالَ إِنَّکَ تَعْمَلُ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ تَنْکِحُ الرِّجَالَ قَالَ یُجْلَدُ حَدَّ الْقَاذِفِ ثَمَانِینَ جَلْدَةً.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If someone accuses a man of committing the act of Lot’s people (homosexual intercourse), the accuser receives the Hadd punishment of eighty lashes!

3⃣عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ صُهَیْبٍ عن أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ یَقُولُ کَانَ عَلِیٌّ یَقُولُ إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ لِلرَّجُلِ یَا مَعْفُوجَ یَا مَنْکُوحَ فِی دُبُرِهِ فَإِنَّ عَلَیْهِ حَدَّ الْقَاذِفِ.

Abbad reported: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) ruled that if someone calls another man 'Ma'fooj' (one who is penetrated from behind), the accuser will be punished with the Hadd!

4⃣عن أبی بصیر عن أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ فِی امْرَأَةٍ قَذَفَتْ رَجُلًا قَالَ تُجْلَدُ ثَمَانِینَ جَلْدَةً.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 7, p. 205

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said regarding a woman who accuses a man of (adultery or sodomy): She is punished with eighty lashes!

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) narrated: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) and said: I called my servant a fornicator. The Prophet asked: Did you see her commit adultery? She said: No! The Prophet said: Be aware that on the Day of Judgment, she will seek retribution from you!

The woman returned to her servant, gave her a whip, and said: Whip me! But the servant refused. The woman freed her servant and reported this to the Prophet. The Prophet said: Hopefully, this action compensates for the slander!

5⃣عن ابي بصير عن أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ فی الرَّجُلِ یَقْذِفُ بِالزِّنَا قَالَ یُجْلَدُ هَذَا فِی کِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَ سُنَّةِ نَبِیِّهِ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said regarding those who accuse others of adultery: They are lashed! This is in the Quran and the tradition of the Prophet.

6⃣عن عبدالرحمن بن أَبِی عَبْداللَّه قال: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْداللَّه عَنْ رَجُلٍ سَبَّ رَجُلًا بِغَیْرِ قَذْفٍ یُعَرِّضُ بِهِ هَلْ یُجْلَدُ قَالَ عَلَیْهِ تَعْزِیرٌ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 7, p. 240

Abdul Rahman reported: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about someone who insults or hints at accusations without explicitly slandering. The Imam said: Only Ta’zir (a punishment less than eighty lashes) is applied.

7⃣عن وهب بن وهب عن جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عن أَبِیهِ أَنَّ عَلِیّاً لَمْ یَکُنْ یَحُدُّ فِی التَّعْرِیضِ حَتَّی یَأْتِیَ بِالْفِرْیَةِ الْمُصَرَّحَةِ مثل یَا زَانِی أَوْ یَا ابْنَ الزَّانِیَةِ أَوْ لَسْتَ لِأَبِیکَ.

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 4, p. 49

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) did not apply Hadd for insinuations unless explicit slander was made, such as 'Adulterer,' 'Son of an adulterous woman,' or 'You are not your father's son!'

✅ Based on the above narrations, anyone who explicitly accuses a man, woman, or their relatives (e.g., mother, sister) of adultery or a man of sodomy is guilty of Qadhf (slander), which carries the Hadd punishment of eighty lashes.

If it is merely an insult without explicit accusations of adultery or sodomy, it does not carry the full Hadd, and the offender is punished with less than eighty lashes according to the Imam’s ruling.

✅ Unfortunately, many common sexual insults carry the Hadd punishment, and some individuals may be liable for thousands of lashes!
