✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1⃣عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَمَّنْ ذَکَرَهُ عَنْ أَیُّوبَ بْنِ الْحُرِّ عَنْ أَبِی حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا قَصُّوا الْأَظْفَارَ لِأَنَّهَا مَقِیلُ الشَّیْطَانِ وَ مِنْهُ یَکُونُ النِّسْیَانُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 490

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, nails should be trimmed because they are a dwelling place for Satan, and forgetfulness is caused by them!'

2⃣عَنْ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنِ الْحَکَمِ بْنِ مِسْکِینٍ عَنْ حُذَیْفَةَ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِنَّ أَسْتَرَ وَ أَخْفَی مَا یُسَلِّطُ الشَّیْطَانَ مِنِ ابْنِ آدَمَ أَنْ صَارَ یَسْکُنُ تَحْتَ الْأَظَافِیرِ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 490

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'The most hidden and concealed place where Satan gains control over the children of Adam is under the nails!'

3⃣عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لِلرِّجَالِ قُصُّوا أَظَافِیرَکُمْ وَ لِلنِّسَاءِ اتْرُکْنَ مِنْ أَظْفَارِکُنَّ فَإِنَّهُ أَزْیَنُ لَکُنَّ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 491

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said to men: 'Trim your nails,' and to women: 'Leave a portion of your nails, as it is more adornment for you!'

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, keeping nails long allows Satan to reside under them and gain control over humans in this way. One of the mentioned harms is forgetfulness. Therefore, there is a general recommendation for both men and women to trim their nails. However, it is recommended that women leave a portion of their nails and not cut them completely, as it is considered a form of adornment.

Note that the recommendation for women is only to leave a portion of their nails, and keeping nails long is discouraged for both men and women.
