1⃣عن یُونُسَ قال: قَرَأْتُ کِتَابَ رَجُلٍ إِلَی أَبِی الْحَسَنِ الرَّجُلُ یَتَزَوَّجُ الْمَرْأَةَ مُتْعَةً إِلَی أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّی فَیَنْقَضِی الْأَجَلُ بَیْنَهُمَا هَلْ یَحِلُّ لَهُ أَنْ یَنْکِحَ أُخْتَهَا مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَنْقَضِیَ عِدَّتُهَا فَکَتَبَ لَا یَحِلُّ لَهُ أَنْ یَتَزَوَّجَهَا حَتَّی تَنْقَضِیَ عِدَّتُهَا.

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 5, p. 431

Yunus said: I read in a letter to Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) from an individual who asked: A man marries a woman temporarily, and the period ends. Is it permissible for him to marry her sister before her waiting period (*iddah*) is over? The Imam wrote: It is not permissible for him to marry her until her waiting period is completed!

2⃣عن زُرَارَةَ عن أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ فِی رَجُلٍ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ وَ هِیَ حُبْلَی أَ یَتَزَوَّجُ أُخْتَهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَضَعَ قال لَا یَتَزَوَّجُهَا حَتَّی یَخْلُوَ أَجَلُهَا

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) was asked about a man who divorces his pregnant wife. Can he marry her sister before she delivers? The Imam replied: He should not marry her until her waiting period is over!

3⃣عن أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی نَصْرٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَکُونُ عِنْدَهُ امْرَأَةٌ یَحِلُّ أَنْ یَتَزَوَّجَ أُخْتَهَا مُتْعَةً قَالَ لَا.

Ahmad said: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about a man who has a wife and whether it is permissible for him to marry her sister temporarily. The Imam replied: No!

4⃣عن أَبِی بَصِیرٍ یَعْنِی الْمُرَادِیَّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ اخْتَلَعَتْ مِنْهُ امْرَأَتُهُ أَ یَحِلُّ لَهُ أَنْ یَخْطُبَ أُخْتَهَا مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَنْقَضِیَ عِدَّةُ الْمُخْتَلِعَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ بَرِئَتْ عِصْمَتُهَا مِنْهُ وَ لَیْسَ لَهُ عَلَیْهَا رَجْعَةٌ.

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 6, p. 144

Abu Basir said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a man whose wife seeks a *khul* divorce. Is it permissible for him to propose to her sister before the waiting period ends? The Imam replied: Yes! The marital bond has been severed, and there is no return for him to that woman.

5⃣عَنِ الْحَلَبِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّه فِی رَجُلٍ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ أَوِ اخْتَلَعَتْ أَوْ بَانَتْ أَ لَهُ أَنْ یَتَزَوَّجَ بِأُخْتِهَا قَالَ فَقَالَ إِذَا بَرِئَتْ عِصْمَتُهَا و لَمْ یَکُنْ لَهُ عَلَیْهَا رَجْعَةٌ فَلَهُ أَنْ یَخْطُبَ أُخْتَهَا.

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 5, p. 432

Halabi asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a man who divorces his wife, whether through *khul* or irrevocable divorce (*ba'in*). Can he marry her sister? The Imam said: If the marital bond is severed (irrevocable divorce) and there is no return (*raj'ah*), he can propose to her sister.

6⃣عن عَلِیِّ بْنِ أَبِی حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِی إِبْرَاهِیمَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ أَ یَتَزَوَّجُ أُخْتَهَا قَالَ لَا حَتَّی تَنْقَضِیَ عِدَّتُهَا.... قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ کَانَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَهَلَکَتْ أَ یَتَزَوَّجُ أُخْتَهَا قَالَ مِنْ سَاعَتِهِ إِنْ أَحَبَّ.

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 5, p. 432

Ali ibn Abi Hamza said: I asked Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) about a man who divorces his wife. Can he marry her sister? The Imam said: No! Not until her waiting period is over. He added: I asked about a man whose wife passes away. Can he marry her sister? The Imam replied: If he wishes, he can marry her immediately!

📚 *Nawadir Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa*, p. 122

7⃣عن مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عن أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: إِذَا اخْتَلَعَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ زَوْجِهَا فَلَا بَأْسَ أَنْ یَتَزَوَّجَ أُخْتَهَا وَ هِیَ فِی الْعِدَّةِ.

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: When a woman seeks a *khul* divorce, there is no issue if her (former) husband marries her sister during the waiting period!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, marrying two sisters simultaneously, whether in a permanent or temporary marriage, or one in a permanent and the other in a temporary marriage, is prohibited.

However, if the wife passes away or the divorce is irrevocable (*khul* or *mubarat*), it is permissible to marry her sister immediately.

In cases of *raj'ah* divorce, pregnancy during divorce, or temporary marriage, one cannot marry the woman's sister during the waiting period and may only do so after the waiting period is completed.
