1⃣عَنْ حَرِیزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: لَا تُعَادُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَّا مِنْ خَمْسَةٍ الطَّهُورِ وَ الْوَقْتِ وَ الْقِبْلَةِ وَ الرُّکُوعِ وَ السُّجُودِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْقِرَاءَةُ سُنَّةٌ وَ التَّشَهُّدُ سُنَّةٌ وَ التَّکْبِیرُ سُنَّةٌ وَ لَا یَنْقُضُ السُّنَّةُ الْفَرِیضَةَ.

📚 *Al-Khisaal*, p. 284

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'The prayer does not need to be repeated except in five cases: purity (wudu, ghusl, or tayammum), time, qibla, ruku, and sujud!'

Then the Imam said: 'Recitation is a Sunnah, tashahhud is a Sunnah, and takbeer is a Sunnah, and the Sunnah does not invalidate the obligatory act.'

2⃣عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لَا تَقْرَأْ فِی الْمَکْتُوبَةِ بِأَقَلَّ مِنْ سُورَةٍ وَ لَا بِأَکْثَرَ.

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 3, p. 314

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'In the obligatory prayer, do not recite less than one surah nor more than one surah after Surah Al-Fatiha!'

3⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِیهِ مُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَرَأَ سُورَتَیْنِ فِی رَکْعَةٍ قَالَ إِذَا کَانَتْ نَافِلَةً فَلَا بَأْسَ وَ أَمَّا الْفَرِیضَةُ فَلَا یَصْلُحُ.

📚 *Qurb al-Isnad*, p. 93

Ali ibn Ja'far said: 'I asked Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him) about a person who recites two surahs in one rak'ah. The Imam replied: 'If it is a voluntary prayer, there is no problem, but it is not appropriate or correct in the obligatory prayer!'

4⃣عَنْ سُفْیَانَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: تَسْجُدُ سَجْدَتَیِ السَّهْوِ فِی کُلِّ زِیَادَةٍ تَدْخُلُ عَلَیْکَ أَوْ نُقْصَانٍ.

📚 *Al-Tehzhib*, Vol. 2, p. 155

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'In every addition or omission that occurs, two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda as-sahw) should be performed!'

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, in the obligatory prayer, no more or less than one surah should be recited after Surah Al-Fatiha. However, if someone accidentally recites more than one surah in the obligatory prayer, due to the requirement of recitation (which is obligatory), their prayer is not invalidated and does not need to be repeated.

But because of the accidental excess in recitation during the obligatory prayer, according to narration 3, the person is required to perform two prostrations of forgetfulness.

✅ Intentionally disrupting the obligatory Sunnah practices of prayer has a different ruling, which will be addressed in its appropriate context, Insha'Allah.
