1⃣ Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: When a person mounts a ride and says 'In the name of Allah,' an angel joins to protect him until he dismounts. But if he doesn’t say 'In the name of Allah,' a devil joins him and tells him to sing. If he says, 'I don’t know how,' the devil says, 'Make a wish,' and he keeps wishing until he dismounts.

And he said: Whoever says, 'In the name of Allah,' when mounting will have their life and ride protected until they dismount!

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِی هَدانا لِهذا وَ ما كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْ لا أَنْ هَدانَا اللَّهُ

سُبْحانَ الَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَ ما کُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِینَ

2⃣ Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you place your foot in the stirrup, say:

And when you are settled on your ride and it is balanced, say:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِیمِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَ اللَّهُ أَکْبَرُ

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِی هَدَانَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَ عَلَّمَنَا الْقُرْآنَ وَ مَنَّ عَلَیْنَا بِمُحَمَّدٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ سُبْحانَ الَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَ ما کُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِینَ و إِنَّا إِلی رَبِّنا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِینَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْحَامِلُ عَلَی الظَّهْرِ و الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَی الْأَمْرِ اللَّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا بَلَاغاً یَبْلُغُ إِلَی خَیْرٍ بَلَاغاً یَبْلُغُ إِلَی رِضْوَانِکَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِکَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا طَیْرَ إِلَّا طَیْرُکَ وَ

لَا خَیْرَ إِلَّا خَیْرُکَ وَ لَا حَافِظَ غَیْرُکَ.

3⃣ Asbagh said: I held the stirrup for Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) as he was about to mount. He looked up and smiled! I asked, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin, I saw you look up and smile!' He said, 'Yes, O Asbagh! Just as you held the stirrup for me, I held it for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). He looked up and smiled, and as you asked me, I asked him, and now I will tell you as he told me.

I held the stirrup of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) as he mounted. He looked to the sky and smiled. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you looked to the sky and smiled!’ He said, ‘O Ali! No one mounts what Allah has blessed him with and then recites the verse of submission (i.e.:

Recite it and then say:

إِنَّ رَبَّکُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِی خَلَقَ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوی عَلَی الْعَرْشِ یُغْشِی اللَّیْلَ النَّهارَ یَطْلُبُهُ حَثِیثاً وَ الشَّمْسَ وَ الْقَمَرَ وَ النُّجُومَ مُسَخَّراتٍ بِأَمْرِهِ أَلا لَهُ الْخَلْقُ وَ الْأَمْرُ تَبارَکَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعالَمِینَ)

Except that the Lord, the Noble, says: ‘My angels, my servant knows that no one forgives sins but Me! Bear witness that I have forgiven his sins!'

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِی لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَیُّ الْقَیُّومُ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِی ذُنُوبِی إِنَّهُ لَا یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

4⃣ Sheikh Saduq said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), when placing his foot in the stirrup, would say:

سُبْحانَ الَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَ ما کُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِینَ

و هفت بار سُبْحانَ اللَّهِ و هفت بار الْحَمْدُلِلَّهِ و هفت بار لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ می گفت!

5⃣ Ali bin Rabi'ah said: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) mounted his ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup, he said, 'In the name of Allah,' and when he sat upright on the ride, he said:

Then he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did the same when I was riding with him!

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِی أَکْرَمَنَا وَ حَمَلَنَا فِی الْبَرِّ وَ الْبَحْرِ وَ رَزَقَنَا مِنَ الطَّیِّبَاتِ وَ فَضَّلَنَا عَلَی کَثِیرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِیلًا سُبْحانَ الَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَ ما کُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِینَ

سپس سه بار سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ و سه بار الْحَمْدُلِلَّهِ گفت و سپس گفت :

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِی فَإِنَّهُ لَا یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
