Question 1266: According to a narration that the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) are sorrowful during festivals, should we also be sorrowful on Eid al-Ghadir?

Etiquette of expressing joy

✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 4

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said to Abdullah bin Dinar: O Abdullah! There is no Eid for Muslims, neither Eid al-Adha nor Eid al-Fitr, except that for the family of Muhammad (peace be upon them all) it renews a sorrow! I asked: Why? He said: Because they see their right in the hands of others!

📚 Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 97, p. 112

📚 Misbah al-Mutahajjid, p. 524

Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) narrated from his ancestors: In one of the years of Amir al-Mu'mineen (peace be upon him), Eid al-Ghadir and Friday coincided. Amir al-Mu'mineen (peace be upon him) ascended the pulpit five hours into the day and praised Allah with a praise unheard of before... until he said... And show joy and happiness among yourselves and express joy in meeting each other.

📚 Kitab al-Iqbal, p. 474

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about the deeds of Eid al-Ghadir: Then eat and drink and express joy and happiness, and feed your brothers and do good to them and fulfill their needs, to honor and respect this day and to oppose those who express sorrow and grief on this day, for Allah will double their sorrow and grief!

📚 Iqbal al-A'mal, p. 884

Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said: On the Day of Judgment, four days will be presented to Allah just as a bride is presented to her chamber. It was asked: What are these days? He said: The Day of Sacrifice, the Day of Fitr, Friday, and the Day of Ghadir. And indeed, the Day of Ghadir among the Day of Sacrifice, Fitr, and Friday is like the moon among the stars... until he said... And it is a day to smile at the faces of the people of faith. Whoever smiles at his brother's face on the Day of Ghadir, Allah will look at him with mercy on the Day of Judgment and fulfill a thousand of his needs and build a palace for him in Paradise from a white pearl and brighten his face.

✅ It is observed that in narration 1⃣, during the Eids of Muslims, the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) feel renewed sorrow because they see their right in the hands of others. However, Imam (peace be upon him) specifically mentions Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. But according to narrations 2⃣, 3⃣, 4⃣, and others, on Eid al-Ghadir, we are obliged to express joy and happiness and smile at the faces of the believers, even though the sorrow of the occultation and estrangement of Imam al-Zaman (peace be upon him) remains in the hearts of the believers.

Therefore, on Eid al-Ghadir, we should not appear sorrowful because the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) are sorrowful on other Eids. Instead, we should express joy and happiness and smile at the faces of the believers.
