Question 220: Is it permissible to shroud the deceased in various types of shrouds, some being Ihram clothing and some being blessed with Karbala, simultaneously?

✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narration:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 144

Translation: Zurarah asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): Is the Imamah (turban) considered part of the burial shroud? The Imam replied: No, indeed, the obligatory burial shroud consists of three pieces of fabric (with one of them being) a complete and comprehensive piece that covers the entire body of the deceased. Therefore, exceeding these three pieces is a tradition until reaching five pieces, and anything beyond that is considered an innovation, and the Imamah is a tradition.

✅ According to the above narration and the hadiths mentioned in question 219 of the channel, there are five pieces of the burial shroud. Three of them, namely the shirt, loincloth, and full-body piece, are obligatory, and the other two, namely the Khirqah and Imamah, are traditions. If more than these items are used for the deceased, it is considered an innovation.

✅ Also, pay attention to the following narration:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 14

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The deceased is shrouded in three pieces, excluding the Imamah. With a Khirqah (a piece of cloth about one and a half spans in width and approximately two meters in length), the upper parts of the deceased's thighs are firmly bound together so that nothing of the body is exposed or discovered. The Imamah and Khirqah must be present, but they are not part of the obligatory shroud.

✅ Understanding that, besides the Imamah and Khirqah, three pieces constitute the obligatory shroud, totaling five items, and exceeding this is considered an innovation.

✅ Also, note the following narrations:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 149

Translation: Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) said: I enshrouded my father, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), in two pieces of a burial shroud that were used for Ihram. I shrouded him in one of his shirts.

✅ Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) also said: We, the Ahl al-Bayt, consider our pilgrimage funds, our women's dowries, and our shrouds to be of the purest of our wealth.

📚 Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 189

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 256

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: One whose burial shroud is with him at home will not be among the heedless, and whenever he looks at his burial shroud, he will be rewarded.

✅ Inshallah, by preparing our burial shrouds, we will benefit from its virtues.

✅ Other points regarding burial shrouds are also mentioned in the narrations, which will be presented upon request. Inshallah.
