Question 1715: If during the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, the time for prayer arrives and the pilgrim goes to perform their prayer and returns, should they restart the Sa'i from the beginning or continue from where they left off?

✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

📚 Al-Tahdheeb, Vol. 5, p. 156

Muhammad bin Ali asked Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) and said: I performed one round of Tawaf and then the dawn prayer time arrived. The Imam said: Pray and then return and complete your Sa'i!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 438

Muawiya bin Ammar says: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): A person enters the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, and then the time for prayer arrives. Should they shorten their Sa'i or should they stop, go pray, and then return, or should they remain as they are (without shortening or hastening it)? The Imam said: Isn't there a prayer place on Safa and Marwah? (Or isn't the Haram mosque next to Safa and Marwah?) No! They should go pray and then return!

I asked: Can they sit on Safa and Marwah? The Imam said: Isn't the person performing Sa'i there on a mount? (Meaning there is no issue)!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 421

Rafa'a says: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a person who performs Tawaf of the Ka'bah and then the time for the Asr prayer arrives. Should they perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwah before the prayer, or should they pray first and then perform the Sa'i? The Imam said: No! Rather, they should pray and then perform the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, if after performing the obligatory Tawaf and before beginning the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah or during the Sa'i, the time for prayer arrives, the person should go pray their obligatory prayer and then begin or continue their Sa'i between Safa and Marwah.

✅ Therefore, if the prayer time arrives during the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, the person should leave the Sa'i, perform the prayer, and then return to continue their Sa'i without needing to restart from the beginning.
