1⃣عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: أَعْفِ شَعْرَکَ لِلْحَجِّ إِذَا رَأَیْتَ هِلَالَ ذِی الْقَعْدَةِ وَ لِلْعُمْرَةِ شَهْراً.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you see the crescent of Dhul-Qi'dah, do not cut your hair for Hajj and let it grow, and for Umrah, do this for one month!

2⃣عَنْ مُعَاوِیَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: الْحَجُّ أَشْهُرٌ مَعْلُوماتٌ شَوَّالٌ وَ ذُو الْقَعْدَةِ وَ ذُو الْحِجَّةِ فَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْحَجَّ وَفَّرَ شَعْرَهُ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَی هِلَالِ ذِی الْقَعْدَةِ وَ مَنْ أَرَادَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَفَّرَ شَعْرَهُ شَهْراً.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Hajj occurs in certain months: Shawwal, Dhul-Qi'dah, and Dhul-Hijjah. So, anyone who intends to perform Hajj, when they see the crescent of Dhul-Qi'dah, should let their hair grow, and anyone who intends to perform Umrah should let their hair grow for one month!

3⃣ أَبِی الصَّبَّاحِ الْکِنَانِیِّ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ یُرِیدُ الْحَجَّ أَ یَأْخُذُ شَعْرَهُ فِی أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ فَقَالَ لَا وَ لَا مِنْ لِحْیَتِهِ لَکِنْ یَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَارِبِهِ وَ مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ وَ لْیَطَّلِ إِنْ شَاءَ.

Abu Sabih Kanani said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a man intending to perform Hajj, whether he should cut his hair in the months of Hajj. The Imam replied: No! He should not cut his beard, but he may trim his mustache and nails, and if he wishes, he may apply Noura (a depilatory agent)!

4⃣عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْحِجَامَةِ وَ حَلْقِ الْقَفَا فِی أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ وَ السِّوَاکِ وَ النُّورَةِ.

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 5, p. 47

Sam'ah said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about cupping and shaving the back of the neck in the months of Hajj (i.e., Shawwal, Dhul-Qi'dah, and Dhul-Hijjah). The Imam said: There is no problem, and using a miswak and Noura is also permissible!

5⃣عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ أَبِی الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْداللَّهِ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ یُرِیدُ الْحَجَّ أَ یَأْخُذُ مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فِی شَوَّالٍ کُلِّهِ مَا لَمْ یَرَ الْهِلَالَ قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ مَا لَمْ یَرَ الْهِلَالَ.

Hussein bin Abi al-Alaa said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a man intending to perform Hajj, whether he should cut his hair in all of Shawwal until he sees the crescent of Dhul-Qi'dah. He replied: There is no problem until he sees the crescent of Dhul-Qi'dah!

6⃣ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي اَلْحَسَنِ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ مُرْنِي كَمْ أُوَفِّرُ شَعْرِي إِذَا أَرَدْتُ اَلْعُمْرَةَ فَقَالَ ثَلاَثِينَ يَوْماً

Is'haq bin Ammar said: I said to Imam Kazim (peace be upon him): Command me on how much hair I should leave to grow when I intend to perform Umrah? The Imam said: 30 days!

7⃣ عَنْ أَبِی حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: لَا تَأْخُذْ مِنْ شَعْرِکَ وَ أَنْتَ تُرِیدُ الْحَجَّ فِی ذِی الْقَعْدَةِ وَ لَا فِی الشَّهْرِ الَّذِی تُرِیدُ فِیهِ الْخُرُوجَ إِلَی الْعُمْرَةِ.

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: When you intend to perform Hajj, do not cut your hair in Dhul-Qi'dah, nor in the month when you intend to perform Umrah!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, a person intending to perform Umrah should leave their hair and beard to grow and not cut or trim them starting 30 days before the time of Umrah.

✅ However, a person intending to perform Hajj should let their hair and beard grow and not cut or trim them from the beginning of the month of Dhul-Qi'dah.

✅ Cutting nails, trimming the mustache, shaving the back of the neck, using Noura on the body, and using a miswak are permissible and allowed during the months of Hajj.
