Answer

✅ Ziyarat Ashura is one of the most important forms of pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and according to the narration in Bihar al-Anwar and others, it is recited on the day of Ashura and other days, from near and far, and specifically from near the head of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him).

✅ Various questions are raised about this pilgrimage. In this article, by presenting a few parts of its narration, we will clarify whether there is a pilgrimage prayer for reciting this pilgrimage from a distance or not, and where the place of these two rak'ahs is.

✅ Please pay attention to a few parts of the narration of Ziyarat Ashura:

Translation: In the hadith of Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about the merit of the pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) on the day of Ashura, Malik al-Juhani said: 'I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you, what is there for a person who is in distant lands and remote places, and it is not possible for him to come to him on that day?' The Imam said: 'When that day comes (i.e., the day of Ashura), he should go out to the desert or climb to a high roof in his house and gesture to him with a salam, and he should strive in cursing his killer, and after that, he should pray two rak'ahs, and he should do these things in the early part of the day and before noon... Alqamah said: 'I said to Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): 'Teach me a supplication that I should recite when I visit him closely on that day, and also a supplication that I should recite if I do not visit him closely and I gesture to him with a salam from a distant land and from the roof of my house.' He said: The Imam said: 'O Alqamah! When you have prayed two rak'ahs after gesturing with a salam, and when you gesture towards him and after those two rak'ahs you say this statement, then indeed you have supplicated with what the angels supplicate when they visit him.'

Translation: Sayf ibn Umayrah said in the hadith of the pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) from near the head of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him): '...Then Safwan recited the pilgrimage that Alqamah ibn Muhammad al-Hadrami narrated from Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about the day of Ashura (from near the head of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him) and then after that, he prayed two rak'ahs near the head of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and after those two rak'ahs, he bid farewell to the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), and while his face was turned towards Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), he gestured to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) with a salam and bid farewell to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and among the supplications he made after that was: 'Ya Allah, Ya Allah, Ya Allah, O Giver of Aid to the distressed...' to the end of the famous supplication.'

✅ Although there is some ambiguity in the phrases of this noble narration, with a little care, it becomes clear that the place of these two rak'ahs of prayer is after the pilgrimage and before reciting the famous supplication, because Ziyarat Ashura is the supplication of the pilgrimage and the manner of giving salam to him.
