1⃣عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِیلَ أَوْ غَیْرِهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی الْحَسَنِ الرَّجُلُ یَدْعُو لِلْحُبْلَی أَنْ یَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مَا فِی بَطْنِهَا ذَکَراً سَوِیّاً فَقَالَ یَدْعُو مَا بَیْنَهُ وَ بَیْنَ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ فَإِنَّهُ أَرْبَعِینَ لَیْلَةً نُطْفَةٌ وَ أَرْبَعِینَ لَیْلَةً عَلَقَةٌ وَ أَرْبَعِینَ لَیْلَةً مُضْغَةٌ فَذَلِکَ تَمَامُ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ ثُمَّ یَبْعَثُ اللَّهُ مَلَکَیْنِ خَلَّاقَیْنِ فَیَقُولَانِ یَا رَبِّ مَا تَخْلُقُ ذَکَراً أَوْ أُنْثَی شَقِیّاً أَوْ سَعِیداً... الْحَدِیثَ.

Muhammad bin Ismail or someone else said: I asked Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him): A man prays for his pregnant wife, asking Allah (Glory be to Him) to make what is in her womb a healthy and complete son! Imam said: He should pray for four months, because the pregnancy starts as a sperm for forty nights, then as a blood clot for forty nights, and then as a lump of flesh for forty nights, completing these four months. Then Allah sends two creative angels who ask: O Lord, what will You create? A son or a daughter? A wretched or a blessed one?....

2⃣عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ قَالَ: کُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ حَیْثُ دَخَلَ عَلَیْهِ دَاوُدُ الرَّقِّیُّ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ یَقُولُونَ إِذَا مَضَی لِلْحَامِلِ سِتَّةُ أَشْهُرٍ فَقَدْ فَرَغَ اللَّهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ یَا دَاوُدُ ادْعُ وَ لَوْ بِشِقِّ الصَّفَا قُلْتُ وَ أَیُّ شَیْءٍ الصَّفَا قَالَ مَا یَخْرُجُ مَعَ الْوَلَدِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ یَفْعَلُ مَا یَشَاءُ.

Amr bin Sa'id said: I was with Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) when Dawood al-Raqi came in and said: People say that after six months of pregnancy, Allah has completed the creation! Imam said: O Dawood! Pray, even if it is at the time of the child’s birth (the moment of 'Safa')! I asked: What is Safa? Imam said: It is what exits with the child at birth, for Allah does whatever He wills!

3⃣عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی نَصْرٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ یَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِنَا بِهَا حَمْلٌ فَقَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الدُّعَاءُ مَا لَمْ تَمْضِ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّمَا لَهَا أَقَلُّ مِنْ هَذَا فَدَعَا لَهَا....

Ahmad said: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) to pray for a woman in our family who was pregnant. Imam said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) used to say: Pray until the fourth month of the fetus! I said: This is less than that! Then Imam prayed for her!

4⃣عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِلرِّضَا یَجُوزُ أَنْ یَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ عَزَّوَجَلَّ فَیُحَوِّلَ الْأُنْثَی ذَکَراً وَ الذَّکَرَ أُنْثَی فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ یَفْعَلُ مَا یَشَاءُ.

Hassan bin Jahm said: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him): Is it permissible to pray for Allah to change a female fetus into a male and vice versa? Imam said: Allah does whatever He wants!

5⃣عَنْ أَبِی زِیَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَطْعِمُوا حَبَالاکُمُ اللُّبَانَ فَإِنَّ الصَّبِیَّ إِذَا غُذِّیَ فِی بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ بِاللُّبَانِ اشْتَدَّ قَلْبُهُ وَ زِیدَ عَقْلُهُ فَإِنْ یَکُ ذَکَراً کَانَ شُجَاعاً وَ إِنْ وَلَدَتْ أُنْثَی عَظُمَتْ عَجِیزَتُهَا فَتَحْظَی بِذَلِکَ عِنْدَ زَوْجِهَا.

Imam al-Hasan (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Give frankincense to your pregnant women, for when the child is nourished by frankincense in the womb, his heart becomes strong, and his intellect increases. If it is a boy, he will be brave, and if a girl is born, her hips will be wide, and as a result, she will be a delight to her husband!

6⃣عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: أَطْعِمُوا حَبَالاکُمْ ذَکَرَ اللُّبَانِ فَإِنْ یَکُنْ فِی بَطْنِهَا غُلَامٌ خَرَجَ ذَکِیَّ الْقَلْبِ عَالِماً شُجَاعاً وَ إِنْ تَکُنْ جَارِیَةٌ حَسُنَ خُلُقُهَا وَ خِلْقَتُهَا وَ عَظُمَتْ عَجِیزَتُهَا وَ حَظِیَتْ عِنْدَ زَوْجِهَا.

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: Give frankincense to your pregnant women, for if it is a son in her womb, he will emerge pure-hearted, knowledgeable, and brave; if it is a daughter, she will be beautiful in character and appearance, and her hips will be wide, benefiting her husband!

7⃣عَنْ أَبِی سَعِیدٍ الْخُدْرِیِّ فِی وَصِیَّةِ النَّبِیِّ لِعَلِیٍّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:.. یَا عَلِیُّ إِذَا حَمَلَتِ امْرَأَتُکَ فَلَا تُجَامِعْهَا إِلَّا وَ أَنْتَ عَلَی وُضُوءٍ فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ قُضِیَ بَیْنَکُمَا وَلَدٌ یَکُونُ أَعْمَی الْقَلْبِ بَخِیلَ الْیَدِ

The Prophet (peace be upon him) in his will to Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said: O Ali! When your wife becomes pregnant, do not have intercourse with her except when you are in a state of wudu (ablution), for if a child is conceived between you, he will become hard-hearted and miserly!

8⃣ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِذَا کَانَ بِامْرَأَةِ أَحَدِکُمْ حَمْلٌ فَأَتَی لَهَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ فَلْیَسْتَقْبِلْ بِهَا الْقِبْلَةَ وَ لْیَقْرَأْ آیَةَ الْکُرْسِیِّ وَ لْیَضْرِبْ عَلَی جَنْبِهَا وَ لْیَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی قَدْ سَمَّیْتُهُ مُحَمَّداً فَإِنَّهُ یَجْعَلُهُ غُلَاماً فَإِنْ وَفَی بِالاسْمِ بَارَکَ اللَّهُ فِیهِ وَ إِنْ رَجَعَ عَنِ الِاسْمِ کَانَ لِلَّهِ فِیهِ الْخِیَارُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَخَذَهُ وَ إِنْ شَاءَ تَرَکَهُ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When one of your women is pregnant and reaches the fourth month, make her face the Qibla, recite Ayat al-Kursi, strike her side, and say: O Allah, I have named him Muhammad! Allah will make him a boy. If the name is honored, Allah will bless him, and if the name is abandoned, Allah has the choice: if He wills, He will take him, and if He wills, He will leave him!

9⃣عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ یُحْبَلُ لَهُ حَبَلٌ فَنَوَی أَنْ یُسَمِّیَهُ مُحَمَّداً إِلَّا کَانَ ذَکَراً إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ...

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: There is no man who intends to name his child Muhammad without it resulting in a son, Insha'Allah!

0⃣1⃣عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِیَادٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَنْ کَانَ لَهُ حَمْلٌ فَنَوَی أَنْ یُسَمِّیَهُ مُحَمَّداً أَوْ عَلِیّاً وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever has a pregnancy and intends to name the child Muhammad or Ali will have a son!

2⃣1⃣ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ يُولَدُ الْوَلَدُ فَيَكُونُ فِيهِ الْبُلْهُ وَ الضَّعْفُ فَقَالَ مَا يَمْنَعُكَ مِنَ السَّوِيقِ اشْرَبْهُ وَ مُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنْبِتُ اللَّحْمَ وَ يَشُدُّ الْعَظْمَ وَ لَا يُولَدُ لَكُمْ إِلَّا الْقَوِيُ

Bakr bin Muhammad said: I was with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when a man came to him and said: O son of the Messenger of Allah! We have children born who are foolish, weak-minded, feeble, and disabled! Imam said: What is stopping you from eating sawiq (a nutritious flour)? Drink it yourself and tell your wife to do the same, for sawiq nourishes the flesh and strengthens the bones, and only strong children will be born to you!

3⃣1⃣عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّه: لَا بَعَثَ اللَّهُ نَبِيّاً وَ لَا وَصِيّاً إِلَّا وُجِدَ مِنْهُ رَائِحَةُ السَّفَرْجَلِ فَكُلُوهَا وَ أَطْعِمُوا حَبَالاكُمْ يُحَسِّنْ أَوْلَادَكُمْ

📚 *Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 66, p. 177*

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in a hadith said: Allah did not send any Prophet or successor except that the scent of quince fruit was found on them! So eat it and give it to your pregnant women to make your children beautiful!
