1⃣عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ فِی حَدِیثِ الْعِلَلِ عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ یَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ الْعِیدَ لِیَکُونَ لِلْمُسْلِمِینَ مُجْتَمَعاً یَجْتَمِعُونَ فِیهِ.... إلي أن قال وَ لِأَنَّهُ أَوَّلُ یَوْمٍ مِنَ السَّنَةِ یَحِلُّ فِیهِ الْأَکْلُ وَ الشُّرْبُ لِأَنَّ أَوَّلَ شُهُورِ السَّنَةِ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْحَقِّ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ فَأَحَبَّ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ یَکُونَ لَهُمْ فِی ذَلِکَ مَجْمَعٌ یَحْمَدُونَهُ فِیهِ وَ یُقَدِّسُونَهُ.

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said in a narration: Indeed, the Day of Fitr is designated as a holiday for Muslims, a time for them to gather and praise Allah... Until he said: And because the Day of Fitr is the first day of the year when eating and drinking are permissible, as the first month of the year in the view of the People of Truth is Ramadan, so Allah wished for them to gather on that day to praise and sanctify Him!

2⃣عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِذَا سَلِمَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ سَلِمَتِ السَّنَةُ قَالَ وَ رَأْسُ السَّنَةِ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When Ramadan is safe, the year is safe. He said: And the beginning of the year is Ramadan!

3⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَةِ عَنْ عُمَرَ الشَّامِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُورِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ اثْنا عَشَرَ شَهْراً فِی کِتابِ اللَّهِ یَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضَ فَغُرَّةُ الشُّهُورِ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ وَ قَلْبُ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ لَیْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ الْحَدِیثَ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, the number of months in the divine book in the sight of Allah, since the creation of the heavens and the earth, is 12 months. So the beginning of the months is Ramadan, and the heart of Ramadan is Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree)!

4⃣عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنِ الْعَبْدِ الصَّالِحِ قَالَ : ادْعُ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ فِی شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ مُسْتَقْبِلَ دُخُولِ السَّنَةِ وَ ذَکَرَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ دَعَا بِهِ مُحْتَسِباً مُخْلِصاً لَمْ تُصِبْهُ فِی تِلْکَ السَّنَةِ فِتْنَةٌ وَ لَا آفَةٌ یُضَرُّ بِهَا دِینُهُ وَ بَدَنُهُ وَ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ ذِکْرُهُ شَرَّ مَا یَأْتِی بِهِ تِلْکَ السَّنَةَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ بِاسْمِکَ الَّذِی دَانَ لَهُ کُلُّ شَیْ ءٍ....

📚 *Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 72*

Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) said: Recite this supplication in Ramadan, as it is the beginning of the year. Whoever recites it sincerely and with anticipation, no trial or calamity that harms their religion or body will reach them in that year, and Allah, whose mention is honored, will protect them from the harm of whatever may come in that year. The supplication is as follows:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ بِاسْمِکَ الَّذِی دَانَ لَهُ کُلُّ شَیْ ءٍ....تا آخر دعاء

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, Ramadan has been designated as the first month of the year and the beginning of the year.

However, in one narration, the month of Muharram is also mentioned as the beginning of the year, which could be in another context.

🔹 The virtue of fasting one day in Sha'ban:

عَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّه يُكْثِرُ الصِّيَامَ فِي شَعْبَانَ- إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ وَ كَانَ يَقُولُ شَعْبَانُ شَهْرِي وَ هُوَ أَفْضَلُ الشُّهُورِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ- فَمَنْ صَامَ فِيهِ يَوْماً كُنْتُ شَفِيعَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَة

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to fast frequently in Sha'ban, to the extent that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say: Sha'ban is my month, and it is the best of months after Ramadan. So whoever fasts one day in Sha'ban, I will intercede for them on the Day of Judgment.
