Question 1633: Is there a prohibition on trimming children's hair by shaving the sides of the head and leaving the hair in the center?

✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

📚 *Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 40*

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said: Do not shave children's heads in the manner of 'Qaza'! Qaza means to shave part of the head and leave other parts unshaven!

📚 *Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 40*

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A child whose head had been shaved with the center left unshaven was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet refused to pray for him and ordered that his head be shaved completely!

📚 *Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 40*

Ibn Qaddah narrated that Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) considered Qaza to be disliked for children. He mentioned that Qaza is when part of the head is shaved and the center is left unshaven, which is called Qaz'ah!

📚 *Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 484*

Abdul Rahman bin Umar said: A barber shaved part of the back of my neck, and Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) saw me and asked: What is this?! Go and shave your head completely! I went and shaved my head completely.

✅ The narrations above show that Qaza is prohibited. According to the narrations and dictionaries, Qaza refers to shaving part of the head while leaving the center or some parts of it unshaven.

This practice was mostly done for children in the past, and it is still done today, but it is prohibited in the above narrations.

✅ This style of hair trimming is unfortunately very common in the pilgrimage cities of Iraq, and one of the reasons for its spread among the children of the lovers of Ahl al-Bayt and the pilgrims of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is the negligence and failure of preachers and speakers to inform the Shi'ah of these narrations.

✅ Shi'ah must be careful not to fall into prohibited acts of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) under the pretext of beautification and fashion, because:

I swear by Allah, we love for you that when we speak, you speak, and when we are silent, you remain silent. We are between you and Allah the Almighty, and Allah has not placed any good in opposition to our command!
