1⃣عن عَلِیٍّ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَاالْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلَ عن رَجُلٍ یَمُرُّ بِبَعْضِ الْأَمْصَارِ و لَهُ بِالْمِصْرِ دَارٌ و لَیْسَ الْمِصْرُ وَطَنَهُ أَ یُتِمُّ صَلَاتَهُ أَمْ یَقْصُرُ قَالَ یَقْصُرُ الصَّلَاةَ و الضِّیَاعُ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ إِذَا مَرَّ بِهَا

Ali said: I asked Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) about a person who passes through a city and has a house there, but the city is not his home. Should he perform his prayer completely or shortened? Imam said: He should pray shortened, and the same applies if he passes through a garden or farm!

2⃣عن سعد بْنِ أَبِی خَلَفٍ قَالَ سَأَلَ عَلِیُّ بْنُ یَقْطِینٍ أَبَاالْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّل عَنِ الدَّارِ تَکُونُ لِلرَّجُلِ بِمِصْرٍ أَوِ الضَّیْعَةِ فَیَمُرُّ بِهَا قَالَ إِنْ کَانَ مِمَّا قَدْ سَکَنَهُ أَتَمَّ فِیهِ الصَّلَاةَ وَ إِنْ کَانَ مِمَّا لَمْ یَسْکُنْهُ فَلْیَقْصُرْ

Saad said: Ali bin Yaqtin asked Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) about a house or property, such as a farm, that a person owns in a city and passes through it. Imam said: If he has lived there, he prays fully, but if he hasn’t lived there, he should pray shortened!

3⃣عن مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عن أَبِي اَلْحَسَنِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ اَلرَّجُلِ يُقَصِّرُ فِي ضَيْعَتِهِ فَقَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ مَا لَمْ يَنْوِ مُقَامَ عَشَرَةِ أَيَّامٍ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ فِيهَا مَنْزِلٌ يَسْتَوْطِنُهُ فَقُلْتُ مَا اَلاِسْتِيطَانُ فَقَالَ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ فِيهَا مَنْزِلٌ يُقِيمُ فِيهِ سِتَّةَ أَشْهُرٍ فَإِذَا كَانَ كَذَلِكَ يُتِمُّ فِيهَا مَتَى يَدْخُلُهَا

و قَالَ و أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى في ضَيْعَتِهِ فَقَصَّرَ في صَلاَتِهِ فَقالَ أَحْمَدُ وَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ وَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً أَنَّ ضَيْعَتَهُ اَلَّتِي قَصَّرَ فِيهَا اَلْحَمْرَاء

📚 *Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 213*

Muhammad bin Ismail said: I asked Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) about a person who prays shortened in his orchard or farm. Imam said: As long as he does not intend to stay for ten days, it is fine, unless he has a house there where he has settled. I asked: What is settlement? Imam said: A house where he stays for six months. If that is the case, whenever he enters it, he prays fully!

The narrator said: Muhammad bin Ismail informed me that Imam prayed shortened in his farm. Ahmad said: Ali bin Ishaq bin Saad and Ahmad bin Muhammad both informed me that the farm where Imam prayed shortened was the Hamarra farm!

4⃣عن عبداللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عن أَبِی عَبْداللَّه قال: مَنْ أَتَی ضَیْعَتَهُ ثُمَّ لَمْ یُرِدِ الْمُقَامَ عَشَرَةَ أَیَّامٍ قَصَّرَ و إِنْ أَرَادَ الْمُقَامَ عَشَرَةَ أَیَّامٍ أَتَمَّ الصَّلَاة

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A person who comes to his garden or farm and does not intend to stay for ten days, prays shortened, but if he intends to stay for ten days, he prays fully!

5⃣عن موسی بن حمزة بن بزیع قال: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی الْحَسَنِ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاکَ إِنَّ لِی ضَیْعَةً دُونَ بَغْدَاد فَأَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْکُوفَةِ أُرِیدُ بَغْدَاد فَأُقِیمُ فِی تِلْکَ الضَّیْعَةِ أُقَصِّرُ أَوْ أُتِمُّ فَقَالَ إِنْ لَمْ تَنْوِ الْمُقَامَ عَشَرَةَ أَیَّامٍ فَقَصِّرْ

Musa said: I said to Imam Kazim (peace be upon him): I have a garden near Baghdad and I leave from Kufa to Baghdad and stay in the garden. Imam said: If you do not intend to stay for ten days, pray shortened!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, a person who has a garden or farm outside his city that is far enough to be considered a travel distance, and sometimes travels there, should pray shortened unless one of two conditions apply:

1. He stays in the garden for ten days.

2. He has a residence in the garden where he has settled and stayed for at least six months.

✅ Several narrations that suggest praying fully without condition in an orchard or farm outside the city were not mentioned due to conflict with these narrations and agreement with the majority.
