✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:

Salim said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'Is there any other 'Eid' for Muslims besides Friday, 'Fitr', and 'Qurban'?' He said: 'Yes! An 'Eid' whose sanctity is greater than all of them!' I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! What 'Eid' is that?' He said: 'The day on which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) appointed the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and said: 'Whoever I am his 'mawla', then Ali (peace be upon him) is his 'mawla'!' I said: 'What day is that?' He said: 'What do you have to do with the day?! The year rotates (and it is a day of the week every year), but that day is the eighteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah!' I said: 'What action is it appropriate for us to perform on that day?' He said: 'You remember Allah, may His remembrance be exalted, with fasting and worship and remembering Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) commanded the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) to take that day as an 'Eid', and the prophets also did this and recommended it to their successors, and they took it as an 'Eid'!'

Hasan ibn Rashid said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'May I be sacrificed for you! Is there any other 'Eid' for Muslims besides 'Fitr' and 'Qurban'?' He said: 'Yes! Greater and more honorable than those two!' I said: 'What day is it?' He said: 'The day on which the Commander of the Faithful (peace and blessings be upon him) was appointed as a banner and a leader!' I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! What action is it appropriate for us to perform on that day?' He said: 'O Hasan! You fast on it and send many blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and you seek dissociation from those who oppressed them, because the prophets (peace be upon them) used to command their successors to take the day on which the successor was appointed as an 'Eid'. I said: 'What will be for the one who fasts on it?' He said: 'The fast of sixty months!'

Ali ibn Husayn said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: 'Fasting on the day of Ghadir Khumm is equal to fasting for the age of the world! If a person lives and fasts for the age of the world, that reward will be for him, and fasting on it, in the sight of Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, is equal to a hundred accepted Hajj and a hundred accepted 'Umrahs' every year, and it is the greatest 'Eid' of Allah...'

📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 99

Hasan ibn Rashid said: It was said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'Is there any other 'Eid' for Muslims besides Friday, 'Fitr', and 'Qurban'?' The Imam said: 'Yes! There is a greater 'Eid' for them than these! The day on which the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) was appointed, and at Ghadir Khumm, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) took the pledge of 'wilayah' for him upon the men and women!'

I said: 'What day is it?' He said: 'The days differ,' and then he said: 'It is the eighteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah.'

Then he said: 'The deed on it is equal to the deed of eighty months, and it is appropriate to increase the remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, and blessings upon the Prophet on it, and for a man to be generous to his family on that day!'

Mufaddal said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'How many 'Eids' do Muslims have?' The Imam said: 'Four 'Eids'!' I said: 'I know Friday and 'Eid al-Fitr' and 'Qurban'!' The Imam said to me: 'The greatest and most honorable of them is the eighteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah, and that is the day on which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) appointed the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and installed him as a banner and a leader for the people!'

I said: 'What is obligatory (necessary) for us to do on that day?' He said: 'Fasting on it is obligatory (necessary) for you for the sake of thanking and praising Allah, even though Allah is worthy of being thanked at all times, and also the prophets used to command their successors to fast on the day on which the successor was appointed and to take it as an 'Eid', and whoever fasts on it, it is more virtuous than the deed of sixty years!'

Fayyad said: I was present with Imam Rida (peace be upon him) on the day of 'Eid al-Ghadir', and a group of his close companions were with the Imam, whom he had kept for breaking the fast, and before that, he had sent food, wheat, gifts, clothes, and even rings and shoes to their houses, and he had changed their circumstances and the circumstances of those around him, and new items had been used for him that were not customary to use before that day (he used new items), and he used to mention the virtue of this day and its antiquity, and among his sayings was that he said: 'My father narrated to me from his ancestors from the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) that in the time of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), the day of 'Ghadir' coincided with a Friday, and the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) ascended the pulpit five hours after the day had passed,' until he said: 'The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: 'O group of believers! Indeed, Allah has gathered for you on this day two great and magnificent 'Eids' that neither of them is established without the other, to complete His beautiful favor upon you...'

Until he said: 'One dirham on this day is equivalent to a hundred thousand dirhams, and it is an increase from Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, and fasting on this day is one of the things that Allah has called for and has placed a great reward in return for it, such that if one of the servants, in old age, from the beginning of the world until its end, worships by standing in its nights and fasting in its days, if a sincere person purely fasts on the day of 'Ghadir', the days of the world fall short of equaling it...'' until he said: 'Then the Imam began the Friday sermon and made the Friday prayer an 'Eid' prayer, and then he and his children and followers went to the house of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) for the food that he had prepared for them, and their rich and poor also went to their families with his generosity!'

Mufaddal said in a hadith on the virtue of 'Eid al-Ghadir': I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! Do you command me to fast on it?' The Imam said: 'Yes, by Allah! Yes, by Allah! Yes, by Allah!'

Indeed, this is a day on which Allah accepted the repentance of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) and he fasted on it for the sake of thanking Allah, and it is a day on which Allah the Almighty saved Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) from the fire and he fasted on it for the sake of thanking Allah for it, and it is a day on which Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) appointed Prophet Aaron (peace be upon him) as a banner and he fasted on that day for the sake of thanking Allah, and it is a day on which Prophet Jesus manifested his successor Simon Peter and he fasted on that day for the sake of thanking Allah, and it is a day on which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) appointed the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) as a banner and a leader for the people and explained his virtue and succession, and he fasted on that day for the sake of thanking Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, and indeed, this day is a day of fasting and standing in prayer and giving food and connecting with brothers, and in it there is the pleasure of Allah and the nose of Satan is rubbed in the dirt!

📚 Iqbal al-A'mal, p. 472.

'Ammarah said: I entered upon Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) on the eighteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah and found him fasting; so the Imam said: 'This day is a day on which Allah has made its sanctity great for the believers because He has completed the religion for them on it.' Until he said: 'I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! What is the reward of fasting on this day?' He said: 'Indeed, this day is an 'Eid' and a day of joy and happiness and fasting for the sake of thanking Allah, and fasting on it is equal to fasting for sixty months from the sacred months!'

📚 Al-Iqbal, p. 274.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith about 'Eid al-Ghadir': 'When the morning of 'Ghadir' arrives, it is obligatory to perform 'ghusl' at the beginning of that day and for a person to wear his cleanest and most luxurious clothes and to use perfume as much as possible and as much as he can afford...' until he said: 'Then eat and drink and show joy and feed your religious brothers and be very kind to them and fulfill their needs, for the sake of honoring this day and opposing the one who shows grief and sadness on this day! May Allah increase his grief and sadness!'

3 1 From al-Rida in a hadith on the virtue of 'Ghadir', he said... 'And it is a day of smiling in the faces of the people of faith, so whoever smiles in the face of his brother on the day of 'Ghadir', Allah will look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection and will fulfill a thousand needs for him and build for him a palace in paradise from a white pearl and make his face fresh and joyful, and it is a day of adornment, so whoever adorns himself for the day of 'Ghadir', Allah will forgive all the sins he has committed, whether small or large, and Allah will send angels to him who write down good deeds for him and raise his ranks until the next day like it, and if he dies, he dies a martyr, and if he lives, he lives a blessed life, and whoever feeds a believer is like one who has fed all the prophets and the truthful ones, and whoever visits a believer on it, Allah will enter seventy lights into his grave and expand his grave, and his grave will be visited by seventy thousand angels every day, and they will give him the glad tidings of paradise...'

'And it is a day of adornment, so whoever adorns himself for the day of 'Ghadir', Allah will forgive every mistake he has made, whether it is small or big, and He will send angels to him who will write good deeds for him and raise his ranks until the next year on such a day. So if he dies in that year, he dies a martyr, and if he lives, he lives a happy and blessed life.'

'And whoever feeds a believer is like one who has fed all the prophets and the truthful ones!'

'And whoever visits a believer on that day, Allah will enter seventy lights into his grave and expand his grave, and his grave will be visited by seventy thousand angels every day and they will give him the glad tidings of paradise.'

✅Based on the above narrations and others, one of the deeds of the great 'Eid' of 'Ghadir' is to fast for the sake of thanking Allah, and very great rewards have been mentioned for it, but with the evidence that exists in narrations like 2 1 and 3 1 and 7 and others and the narrations that limit the obligatory fasts, it is clear that fasting on this day is not obligatory.
