1 عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِی خَلَفٍ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ مُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَر أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِی وَصِیَّتِهِ لِبَعْضِ وُلْدِهِ وَ إِیَّاکَ وَ الْکَسَلَ وَ الضَّجَرَ فَإِنَّهُمَا یَمْنَعَانِکَ حَظَّکَ مِنَ الدُّنْیَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ.

Imam Kazim, peace be upon him, in his will to one of his sons, said: Beware of sloth and laziness, and of fatigue and boredom, for these two things prevent you from your share in this world and the hereafter!

2 عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ آبَائِه فِی وَصِیَّةِ النَّبِیِّ لِعَلِیٍّ قَالَ : یَا عَلِیُّ لَا تَمْزَحْ فَیَذْهَبَ بَهَاؤُکَ وَ لَا تَکْذِبْ فَیَذْهَبَ نُورُکَ وَ إِیَّاکَ وَ خَصْلَتَیْنِ الضَّجَرَ وَ الْکَسَلَ فَإِنَّکَ إِنْ ضَجِرْتَ لَمْ تَصْبِرْ عَلَی حَقٍّ وَ إِنْ کَسِلْتَ لَمْ تُؤَدِّ حَقّاً یَا عَلِیُّ مَنِ اسْتَوْلَی عَلَیْهِ الضَّجَرُ رَحَلَتْ عَنْهُ الرَّاحَةُ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, narrated from his ancestors that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, in his will to Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: O Ali! Do not joke, for it will take away your dignity and brightness, and do not lie, for it will take away your light, and beware of two qualities: boredom and indolence! For if you are bored, you will not endure any right, and if you are lazy and indolent, you will not perform any right. O Ali! The one who is overcome by boredom, comfort leaves him!

3 عَنْ عِیسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْعَلَوِیِّ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ أَبِی طَالِبٍ أَنَّ النَّبِیَّ قَالَ : عَلَامَةُ الصَّابِرِ فِی ثَلَاثٍ أَوَّلُهَا أَنْ لَا یَکْسَلَ وَ الثَّانِیَةُ أَنْ لَا یَضْجَرَ وَ الثَّالِثَةُ أَنْ لَا یَشْکُوَ مِنْ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لِأَنَّهُ إِذَا کَسِلَ فَقَدْ ضَیَّعَ الْحُقُوقَ وَ إِذَا ضَجِرَ لَمْ یُؤَدِّ الشُّکْرَ وَ إِذَا شَکَا مِنْ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَقَدْ عَصَاهُ.

Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: The sign and indication of a patient person are in three things: the first is that he is not lazy, the second is that he does not get tired and bored, and the third is that he does not complain about his Lord, the Exalted! For if he is lazy, he wastes rights, and if he is bored and tired, he does not give thanks, and if he complains about his Lord, the Exalted, he has certainly disobeyed Him!

4 عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: إِنِّی لَأُبْغِضُ الرَّجُلَ أَوْ أُبْغِضُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ یَکُونَ کَسْلَاناً [کَسْلَانَ] عَنْ أَمْرِ دُنْیَاهُ وَ مَنْ کَسِلَ عَنْ أَمْرِ دُنْیَاهُ فَهُوَ عَنْ أَمْرِ آخِرَتِهِ أَکْسَلُ.

Imam Baqir, peace be upon him, said: I dislike a person, or he said: I dislike for a person to be lazy and slothful for his worldly work, and the one who is lazy and slothful for his worldly work is lazier and more slothful for the work of the hereafter!

5 عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: مَنْ کَسِلَ عَنْ طَهُورِهِ وَ صَلَاتِهِ فَلَیْسَ فِیهِ خَیْرٌ لِأَمْرِ آخِرَتِهِ وَ مَنْ کَسِلَ عَمَّا یُصْلِحُ بِهِ أَمْرَ مَعِیشَتِهِ فَلَیْسَ فِیهِ خَیْرٌ لِأَمْرِ دُنْیَاهُ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Whoever is lazy in his ritual purity (i.e., ghusl and wudu and so on) and his prayer, there is no good in him for his matter of the hereafter, and whoever is lazy regarding what improves his livelihood, there is no good in him for his matter of this world!

6 عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ قَالَ: کَتَبَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَی رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ... وَ لَا تَکْسَلْ عَنْ مَعِیشَتِکَ فَتَکُونَ کَلًّا عَلَی غَیْرِکَ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَی أَهْلِکَ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, wrote to one of his companions: ... Do not be lazy regarding your livelihood, so that you do not become a burden on others. Or he said: A burden on your family!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَجِّلْ لِوَلِیِّکَ الْفَرَجَ وَ الْعَافِیَةَ وَ النَّصْر

7 عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: عَدُوُّ الْعَمَلِ الْکَسَلُ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The enemy of action is indolence and laziness!

8 عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: لَا تَسْتَعِنْ بِکَسْلَانَ وَ لَا تَسْتَشِیرَنَّ عَاجِزاً.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Do not ask for help from a lazy person and never consult a helpless person!

9 عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: قَالَ أَمِیرُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ إِنَّ الْأَشْیَاءَ لَمَّا ازْدَوَجَتْ ازْدَوَجَ الْکَسَلُ وَ الْعَجْزُ فَنُتِجَا بَیْنَهُمَا الْفَقْرَ

Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: When things got married to each other, laziness and helplessness got married and gave birth to poverty between them!

10 عَنْ حَمَّادٍ اللَّحَّامِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: لَا تَکْسَلُوا فِی طَلَبِ مَعَایِشِکُمْ فَإِنَّ آبَاءَنَا کَانُوا یَرْکُضُونَ فِیهَا وَ یَطْلُبُونَهَا.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Do not be lazy in seeking your livelihood, for our fathers used to move quickly and take action in it and seek it!

1 1 عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِیَّاکَ وَ الضَّجَرَ وَ الْکَسَلَ إِنَّهُمَا مِفْتَاحُ کُلِّ سُوءٍ إِنَّهُ مَنْ کَسِلَ لَمْ یُؤَدِّ حَقّاً وَ مَنْ ضَجِرَ لَمْ یَصْبِرْ عَلَی حَقٍّ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Beware of fatigue and boredom and of laziness and indolence, for these are the keys to all evil. Certainly, the one who is lazy does not perform a right, and the one who is bored and tired does not endure the truth!

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said in a hadith: If the reward from Allah is a reality, then what is the reason for laziness and indolence?!

3 1 عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام قَالَ: قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ لِلْکَسْلَانِ ثَلَاثُ عَلَامَاتٍ یَتَوَانَی حَتَّی یُفَرِّطَ وَ یُفَرِّطُ حَتَّی یُضَیِّعَ وَ یُضَیِّعُ حَتَّی یَأْثَمَ

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Luqman said to his son: There are three signs for a lazy person: he is slow until he falls short, and he falls short until he is ruined, and he is ruined until he enters into sin!
