Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him) narrated from his father that the Messenger of God (prayers of God be upon him and his family) said: 'Whoever clips his nails on Saturday and (or) Thursday and trims his mustache (the hair hanging over the upper lip), he will be granted health from toothache and eye pain!'

2 عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الرَّافِعِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلی الله علیه و آله: الْکَمْأَةُ مِنْ نَبْتِ الْجَنَّةِ مَاؤُهُ نَافِعٌ مِنْ وَجَعِ الْعَیْنِ

Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him) said: 'The Messenger of God (prayers of God be upon him and his family) said: 'Mushrooms are among the growths of Paradise, and their water is beneficial for eye pain!'

3 قَالَ أَمِیرُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ علیه السلام: إِذَا اشْتَکَی أَحَدُکُمْ عَیْنَهُ فَلْیَقْرَأْ آیَةَ الْکُرْسِیِّ وَ لْیُضْمِرْ فِی نَفْسِهِ أَنَّهَا تَبْرَأُ فَإِنَّهُ یُعَافَی إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

The Commander of the Faithful (prayers of God be upon him) said: 'When one of you suffers from eye pain and becomes ill, he should recite Ayat al-Kursi and internalize it, for indeed this verse will heal him, and in that case, God willing, he will recover!'

4 عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجُعْفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: کُنْتُ کَثِیراً مَا أَشْتَکِی عَیْنِی فَشَکَوْتُ ذَلِکَ إِلَی أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ أَ لَا أُعَلِّمُکَ دُعَاءً لِدُنْیَاکَ وَ آخِرَتِکَ وَ بَلَاغاً لِوَجَعِ عَیْنَیْکَ قُلْتُ بَلَی قَالَ تَقُولُ فِی دُبُرِ الْفَجْرِ وَ دُبُرِ الْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَیْکَ، صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اجْعَلِ النُّورَ فِی بَصَرِی وَ الْبَصِیرَةَ فِی دِینِی وَ الْیَقِینَ فِی قَلْبِی وَ الْإِخْلَاصَ فِی عَمَلِی وَ السَّلَامَةَ فِی نَفْسِی وَ السَّعَةَ فِی رِزْقِی وَ الشُّکْرَ لَکَ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَیْتَنِی.

Muhammad al-Ja'fi narrated from his father who said: 'I used to suffer a lot from eye pain. So I complained about it to Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him). The Imam said: 'Should I not teach you a supplication for your worldly life and your afterlife and that which will suffice for your eye pain?' I said: 'Yes!' He said: 'After the morning and evening prayers, say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَیْکَ، صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اجْعَلِ النُّورَ فِی بَصَرِی وَ الْبَصِیرَةَ فِی دِینِی وَ الْیَقِینَ فِی قَلْبِی وَ الْإِخْلَاصَ فِی عَمَلِی وَ السَّلَامَةَ فِی نَفْسِی وَ السَّعَةَ فِی رِزْقِی وَ الشُّکْرَ لَکَ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَیْتَنِی.

5 Isa ibn Sulayman said: 'One day I came to Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him) and saw something of an eye ailment on him. So I became sad because of it, and the next day I came to him and there was no eye ailment on him! So I asked him about it. The Imam said: 'I treated it with something which is an amulet that I have, and I used it to protect my two eyes.' The narrator said: 'So the Imam informed me of that amulet, and its text is as follows:

أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِکَرَمِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِبَهَاءِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِحِلْمِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِذِکْرِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِآلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ عَلَیْهِمْ عَلَی مَا أَجِدُ مِنْ حِکَّةِ عَیْنَیَّ وَ مَا أَخَافُ مِنْهَا وَ مَا أَحْذَرُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ الطَّیِّبِینَ أَذْهِبْ ذَلِکَ عَنِّی بِحَوْلِکَ وَ قُدْرَتِکَ

Imam Baqir (prayers of God be upon him) said: 'The Messenger of God (prayers of God be upon him and his family), when he or one of his family or companions had eye pain, would recite this supplication:

اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنِی بِسَمْعِی وَ بَصَرِی وَ اجْعَلْهُمَا الْوَارِثَیْنِ مِنِّی وَ انْصُرْنِی عَلَی مَنْ ظَلَمَنِی وَ أَرِنِی فِیهِ ثَارِی

7 عَنْ یُونُسَ بْنِ ظَبْیَانَ قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَی أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام وَ هُوَ رَمِدٌ شَدِیدَ الرَّمَدِ فَاغْتَمَمْنَا لِذَلِکَ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحْنَا مِنَ الْغَدِ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَیْهِ فَإِذَا لَا رَمَدَ بِعَیْنِهِ وَ لَا بِهِ قَلَبَةٌ فَقُلْنَا جُعِلْنَا فِدَاکَ هَلْ عَالَجْتَ عَیْنَیْکَ بِشَیْءٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ بِمَا هُوَ مِنَ الْعِلَاجِ فَقُلْنَا مَا هُوَ فَقَالَ عُوذَةٌ فَکَتَبْنَاهَا وَ هِیَ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُوَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِنُورِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِبَهَاءِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمْعِ اللَّهِ قُلْنَا وَ مَا جَمْعُ اللَّهِ قَالَ بِکُلِّ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِالْأَئِمَّةِ وَ سَمَّی وَاحِداً وَاحِداً ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلَی مَا نَشَاءُ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ الطَّیِّبِینَ

Yunus ibn Zabyan said: 'We came to Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him), and he had severe eye pain, and we were saddened by it. The next morning, we came to him and saw that there was no pain, redness, or defect in his eye! We said: 'May we be sacrificed for you! Did you treat your eyes with something?' He said: 'Yes! With something that is among the treatments!' We said: 'What is it?' He said: 'It is an amulet,' and we wrote it down, and that amulet is:

أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُوَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِنُورِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِبَهَاءِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمْعِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِأَمِیرِ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ

وَ أَعُوذُ بِالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ وَ أَعُوذُ بِالْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَلِیٍّ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَعْفَرٍ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَعُوذُ بِمُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَلِیٍّ بْنِ مُوسَی وَ أَعُوذُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَلِیٍّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَعُوذُ بِالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ وَ أَعُوذُ بِالْحُجَّةِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَلَی مَا نَشَاءُ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ الطَّیِّبِینَ

ما گفتیم : «جَمْعُ اللَّهِ» چیست؟ فرمود : «بِکُلِّ اللَّهِ»!

8 عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُوسَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا علیه السلام قَالَ: إِنَّمَا شِفَاءُ الْعَیْنِ قِرَاءَةُ الْحَمْدِ وَ الْمُعَوِّذَتَیْنِ وَ آیَةِ الْکُرْسِیِّ وَ الْبَخُورُ بِالْقُسْطِ وَ الْمُرِّ وَ اللُّبَانِ

Imam Reza (prayers of God be upon him) said: 'Indeed, the cure for the eye is the recitation of Surah Al-Hamd, Surah Al-Nas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Ayat al-Kursi, and fumigating with costus (a medicinal plant wood), myrrh (the resin of a tree), and frankincense!'

9 عَنْ أَبِی یُوسُفَ الْمُعَصَّبِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ علیه السلام أَشْکُو إِلَیْکَ مَا أَجِدُ فِی بَصَرِی وَ قَدْ صِرْتُ شَبْکُوراً فَإِنْ رَأَیْتَ أَنْ تُعَلِّمَنِی شَیْئاً قَالَ اکْتُبْ هَذِهِ الْآیَةَ اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ الْآیَةَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فِی جَامٍ ثُمَّ اغْسِلْهُ وَ صَیِّرْهُ فِی قَارُورَةٍ وَ اکْتَحِلْ بِهِ قَالَ وَ مَا اکْتَحَلْتُ إِلَّا أَقَلَّ مِنْ مِائَةِ مِیلٍ حَتَّی رَجَعَ بَصَرِی أَصَحَّ مَا کَانَ أَوْ قَالَ مَا کُنْتُ

Abu Yusuf said: I said to Imam Kazim (prayers of God be upon him): 'I complain to you about what has afflicted my eye and that I have become night-blind! If you see fit, teach me something.' The Imam said: 'Write this verse three times in a container, wash it, pour it into a vial, and use it as kohl:

اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ مَثَلُ نُورِهِ کَمِشْکَاةٍ فِیهَا مِصْبَاحٌ الْمِصْبَاحُ فِی زُجَاجَةٍ الزُّجَاجَةُ کَأَنَّهَا کَوْکَبٌ دُرِّیٌّ یُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَارَکَةٍ زَیْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِیَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِیَّةٍ یَکَادُ زَیْتُهَا یُضِیءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ نُّورٌ عَلَی نُورٍ یَهْدِی اللَّهُ لِنُورِهِ مَن یَشَاءُ وَیَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ وَاللَّهُ بِکُلِّ شَیْءٍ عَلِیمٌ

The narrator said: 'I did not use it as kohl for less than one hundred 'mil' (a measure) except that my vision returned healthier than it was!'

10 عَنْ أَمِیرالْمُؤْمِنِین قَالَ: اشْتَکَتْ عَیْنُ سَلْمَانَ و أَبِی ذَرٍّ رَضِیَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قال فَأَتَاهُمَا النَّبِیُّ صلی الله علیه و آله عَائِداً لَهُمَا فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَیْهِمَا قَالَ لِکُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا لَا تَنَمْ عَلَی الجَانِبِ الْأَیْسَرِ مَا دُمْتَ شَاکِیاً مِنْ عَیْنَیْکَ و لَا تَقْرَبَ التَّمْرَ حَتَّی یُعَافِیَکَ اللَّهُ عَزَّوَجَلَّ

The Commander of the Faithful (prayers of God be upon him) said: 'The eyes of Salman and Abu Dharr (may God be pleased with them both) were in pain. So the Messenger of God (prayers of God be upon him and his family) came to visit them, and when he looked at them, he said to each of them: 'As long as you have eye pain, do not sleep on your left side and do not come near dates until God grants you health!'

Jamil ibn Darraj said: 'I was with Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him), and then Bukayr ibn A'yan came to him with eye pain. The Imam said to him: 'Does a clever person get eye pain?!' He said: 'What should he do?' He said: 'When he washes his hands from the grease of food, he should wipe them over his two eyes!' He said: 'I did this and I did not have eye pain again!'

2 1 عن رَجُلٍ قال: دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَی أَبِی عَبْداللَّه علیه السلام و هُوَ یَشْتَکِی عَیْنَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَیْنَ أَنْتَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْأَجْزَاءِ الثَّلَاثَةِ الصَّبِرِ و الْکَافُورِ و الْمُرِّ فَفَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ ذَلِکَ فَذَهَبَتْ عَنْهُ

A man said: 'A person who had eye pain came to Imam Sadiq (prayers of God be upon him).' The Imam said: 'Why are you heedless of these three ingredients: sabr (aloe), camphor, and myrrh (the resin of a tree)?' The man did this (as fumigation or kohl) and his pain went away!'

1 3 From Sulaym, the servant of Ali ibn Yaqtin: 'He had a problem and pain in his eyes.' So Abu al-Hasan (Imam Kazim) wrote to him on his own initiative: 'What prevents you from using the kohl of Abu Ja'far (Imam Baqir, peace be upon him)? One part Ruba'i camphor and one part Suqutri aloe are pounded together and sifted with a silk cloth. One should use it as kohl just as one uses ithmid kohl, once a month, as it brings down every ailment in the head and expels it from the body.'

The narrator said: 'He used to use this kohl, and his eye did not become ill until he died!'
