Question 1293: Can a woman in her waiting period (iddah) after a divorce reveal her adornments to her husband?
Answer
✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 91
Imam Al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said: A divorced woman may adorn herself and reveal her adornments to her husband as long as there is a possibility for the man to return to her, and the man does not need to ask for permission to enter upon her!
📚 Qurb al-Asnad, p. 110
Ali ibn Ja'far says: I asked Musa ibn Ja'far (peace be upon him) about a divorced woman, whether she can apply kohl, dye her hair, or wear colorful clothes? The Imam said: There is no problem, as long as she does it without a bad intention!
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 91
Imam Al-Baqir or Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon them) said about a divorced woman: She spends her waiting period in her home and reveals her adornments to him (meaning her husband), so that perhaps Allah may bring about a new matter after that!
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 92
Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A divorced woman can apply kohl, dye her hair, use perfume, and wear any clothes she wishes, because Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, says (in Surah Al-Talaq, verse 1): '...perhaps Allah may bring about a new matter after that,' perhaps it will occur to the man to return to her!
✅ According to the narrations above and others, a woman who has been given a revocable divorce (talaq raj'i), her husband can return to her during the waiting period. During this period, the woman can apply kohl, dye her hair, wear any clothes she wishes, including colorful clothes, and adorn herself, and she can reveal her adornments to her husband. However, these rulings apply specifically to a revocable divorce and do not exist for an irrevocable divorce (talaq ba'in).
