448 views 13 Feb 2021

Answer

✅Answer: Regarding sending charity and righteous deeds for the deceased, including parents, one can refer to the narrations in questions 57 and 152, which indicate that any righteous deed, such as reciting the Qur'an and giving charity, can be performed anywhere and in any desired amount for them. In addition to those narrations, please also pay attention to the following specific narrations:

📚 Al-Kafi Vol. 3, p. 417

Translation: Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, a servant is a benefactor towards his parents during their lifetime, and then they pass away, and the son does not pay the debts of the parents and does not ask for forgiveness for them. As a result, Allah writes him down as disobedient to his parents. And perhaps a son is not a benefactor towards his parents during their lifetime, but when his parents pass away, he pays their debts and asks Allah for forgiveness for them, and as a result, Allah writes him down as a benefactor to his parents. And Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If you want Allah to increase your lifespan, make your parents happy, and he said: Beneficence and kindness increase provision.

📚 Tahdhib Vol. 1, p. 467

Translation: Umar ibn Yazid said: Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) used to perform two 'rak'ahs' of prayer every night for his (deceased) son and two 'rak'ahs' of prayer every day for his parents. I said: May I be sacrificed for you; why is it at night for the son? He said: Because the bed is for the son, and the Imam would recite 'Surah al-Qadr' and 'Surah al-Kawthar' in these two 'rak'ahs'.

📚 Al-Kafi Vol. 2, p. 159

Translation: Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: What prevents you from being a benefactor to your parents during their lifetime and after their death? Pray on their behalf and give charity on their behalf, and perform Hajj and fast for them. The result is that these deeds you perform will be for them, and the person himself will also have the like of it, and Allah will increase for him a great deal of good because of his beneficence and ties.

📚 Al-Kafi Vol. 2, p. 163

Translation: Sudayr said: I said to Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him): Can a son repay his father? (Can he compensate for his efforts?) The Imam said: No, except with two things: one is that his father is a slave and the son buys and frees him, or that his father is in debt and the son pays his debt.

✅ Many narrations have been mentioned in Shia hadith collections about the importance of being a benefactor to parents. Among them, we recommend to all believers to regularly and carefully read the unique prayer 24 from Sahifa Sajjadiyyah, so that in addition to praying for their parents, they become familiar with many of the rights of parents that are included in this prayer.

✅ At the end, we present this part of the prayer of Abu Hamza al-Thumali, which is narrated from Imam al-Sajjad (peace be upon him), to all believers so that they may benefit from reciting it at various times such as in the 'qunut' and 'sajdah', Insha'Allah.
