Question 1223: In some wedding feasts and other gatherings, wine is served to guests along with food. What is the ruling on eating food alongside these people?

Answer
✅ Answer: Refer to the following narrations:
1 From Harun ibn al-Jahm: We were with Abu Abdullah (Imam Sadiq) in Al-Hira when Abu Ja'far al-Mansur arrived. One of the commanders circumcised his son, prepared food, and invited people. Abu Abdullah was among the invitees. While the Imam was eating at the table with others, a man requested water. A cup containing wine was brought for him. When the cup reached the man, Abu Abdullah stood up from the table. When asked why, he said: The Messenger of Allah cursed the one who sits at a table where wine is being consumed.
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol.6, p.268
Harun ibn al-Jahm said: We were in Al-Hira with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when Mansur entered. One commander circumcised his son, prepared a meal, and invited people, including the Imam. While the Imam was eating, a man requested water. A container with wine was brought. When it reached him, the Imam stood. Asked why, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Cursed is he who sits at a table where wine is drunk!

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment should not eat at a table where wine is drunk!
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol.4, p.7
In the Manahi narration, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrated from his ancestors that the Messenger of Allah prohibited sitting at a table where wine is consumed!
📚 Al-Khisal, p.619
Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said: Do not sit at a table where wine is drunk, for one does not know when punishment may descend!
5 From Ammar ibn Musa from Abu Abdullah: He was asked about a table where wine or an intoxicant is consumed. He said: The table becomes forbidden. Asked: If a person eats at a prepared table where an intoxicant is present but no one has drunk yet? He replied: It is not forbidden until it is drunk. If something is placed later after drinking, eat it; it is considered another table, e.g., a dessert put later.
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol.6, p.429
Ammar said: He asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a table where wine or intoxicants are consumed. The Imam said: That table is forbidden! Asked: If a person is present at a table with an intoxicant but none has drunk yet? He replied: It is not forbidden until it is drunk. If something is placed afterward, such as a dessert, it is permissible to eat it, as it is considered a different table.
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol.4, p.57
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Do not sit or socialize with drinkers of wine, for when the curse descends, it affects all present!
✅ According to the above narrations and others, sitting at a table where someone drinks wine or intoxicants is forbidden, and one must immediately leave the table. When the curse descends, it affects all present.
Therefore, eating food alongside people who drink wine, beer, or other intoxicants at wedding feasts or similar gatherings is forbidden. The person involved is cursed, and one cannot eat at these tables, even if one does not personally drink.
