1 عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ أَبِي سَيَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: فِيمَا أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّه الْبَيْعَةَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ أَنْ لَا يَحْتَبِينَ وَ لَا يَقْعُدْنَ مَعَ الرِّجَالِ فِي الْخَلَاءِ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 5, p. 519

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Among the things the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) took a pledge from women was that they should not sit in the manner of ihtiba' (hugging their shins) and that they should not sit alone with men in one place!'

2 عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ آبَائِه عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّه قَالَ: مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَ الْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلَا يَبِتْ فِي مَوْضِعٍ يَسْمَعُ نَفَسَ امْرَأَةٍ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ بِمَحْرَمٍ.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'Whoever believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment should not stay in a place where he hears the sound of the breath of a woman who is not a mahram to him!'

3 عَنْ سَعْدَانَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ: بَيْنَمَا مُوسَى بْنُ عِمْرَان جَالِسٌ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ إِبْلِيسُ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ أُوصِيكَ بِثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ يَا مُوسَى لَا تَخْلُ بِامْرَأَةٍ وَ لَا تَخْلُ بِكَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَخْلُو رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ وَ لَا تَخْلُو بِهِ إِلَّا كُنْتُ صَاحِبَهُ مِنْ دُونِ أَصْحَابِي الْخَبَرَ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'While Moses ibn Imran (peace be upon our Prophet and his family and upon him) was sitting, suddenly Iblis came towards him... until Iblis said to Prophet Moses (peace be upon him): 'O Moses! I advise you on three matters: Do not be alone with any woman, and she should not be alone with you, for no man is alone with a woman in one place and that woman is alone with him except that I myself, not my companions, will be with him!'

4 عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الطَّيَّارِ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَ طَلَبْتُ بَيْتاً أَتَكَارَاهُ فَدَخَلْتُ دَاراً فِيهَا بَيْتَانِ بَيْنَهُمَا بَابٌ وَ فِيهِ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ تُكَارِي هَذَا الْبَيْتَ قُلْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا بَابٌ وَ أَنَا شَابٌّ فَقَالَتْ أَنَا أُغْلِقُ الْبَابَ بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَكَ فَحَوَّلْتُ مَتَاعِي فِيهِ وَ قُلْتُ لَهَا أَغْلِقِي الْبَابَ فَقَالَتْ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيَّ مِنْهُ الرَّوْحُ دَعْهُ فَقُلْتُ لَا أَنَا شَابٌّ وَ أَنْتِ شَابَّةٌ أَغْلِقِيهِ فَقَالَتِ اقْعُدْ أَنْتَ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَلَسْتُ آتِيكَ وَ لَا أَقْرَبُكَ وَ أَبَتْ أَنْ تُغْلِقَهُ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّه فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ تَحَوَّلْ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ وَ الْمَرْأَةَ إِذَا خُلِّيَا فِي بَيْتٍ كَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا الشَّيْطَانَ.

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 3, p. 252

Muhammad ibn Tayyar said: 'I entered Madinah and was looking for a room to rent. So I entered a house that had two rooms and there was a door between them, and a woman was in it. The woman said: 'Do you want to rent this room?' I said: 'There is a door between these two rooms, and I am also a young man!' The woman said: 'I will lock the door between the two rooms.' So I brought my belongings to that room and said: 'Lock the door!' She said: 'Let it be! The air comes in here!'

I said: 'No! I am a young man and you are a young woman! Lock the door!' The woman said: 'You sit in your room, and I will not come to you or get close to you!' And she refused to lock the door!

So I met Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) and asked him about this. The Imam said: 'Leave here! For when a man and a woman are alone in a room, the third of them will be Satan!'

✅ According to the above narrations and others, non-mahram men and women should not be alone in one place, and the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) have strictly forbidden this matter.

Unfortunately, nowadays, it has become common for non-mahram men and women to be alone in workplaces and stores, etc., and no one reminds them of the commands of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) regarding this.

Of course, the people of faith and those who intend to preserve their religion, even if it is as difficult as holding a fiery hot coal in their palm, will never agree to be alone with a non-mahram in one place.

✅ Those who hire a female secretary for their offices and other places and are alone with them at least some of the time are subject to this prohibition and its severe dangers.
