1 عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ صُمْ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَ أَفْطِرْ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَ إِيَّاكَ وَ الشَّكَّ وَ الظَّنَّ فَإِنْ خَفِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا الشَّهْرَ الْأَوَّلَ ثَلَاثِين

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'It is in the book of Ali (peace be upon him): Fast by sighting the crescent and break your fast by sighting it, and completely refrain from doubt and conjecture. And if it is hidden from you, complete the first month as 30 days!'

2 الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: لَيْسَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقِبْلَةِ إِلَّا الرُّؤْيَةُ وَ لَيْسَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَّا الرُّؤْيَةُ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no duty upon the people of the Qibla except for sighting, and there is nothing upon the Muslims except for sighting!'

3 عن هَارُونَ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّه قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِذَا صُمْتَ لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَ أَفْطَرْتَ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَقَدْ أَكْمَلْتَ صِيَامَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَان

Harun said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: 'If you fast by sighting the crescent and break your fast by sighting it, you have indeed completed the fast of the month of Ramadan!'

4 عن مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَر قال: إِذَا رَأَیْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا وَ إِذَا رَأَیْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا وَ لَیْسَ بِالرَّأْیِ وَ لَا بِالتَّظَنِّی- وَ لَیْسَ الرُّؤْیَةَ أَنْ یَقُومَ عَشَرَةُ نَفَرٍ فَیَقُولَ وَاحِدٌ هُوَ ذَا وَ یَنْظُرُ تِسْعَةٌ فَلَا یَرَوْنَهُ لَکِنْ إِذَا رَآهُ وَاحِدٌ رَآهُ أَلْفٌ

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'When you see the crescent, fast, and when you see it, break your fast, and it is not with opinion and conjecture. And the sighting is not that ten people stand and one says: 'This is the crescent,' and the other nine look and do not see it.'

5 عن عَبْداللَّه بْنِ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّه قَالَ: صُمْ لِلرُّؤْيَةِ وَ أَفْطِرْ لِلرُّؤْيَةِ وَ لَيْسَ رُؤْيَةَ الْهِلَالِ أَنْ يَجِيءَ الرَّجُلُ وَ الرَّجُلَانِ فَيَقُولَانِ رَأَيْنَا إِنَّمَا الرُّؤْيَةُ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْقَائِلُ رَأَيْتُ فَيَقُولَ الْقَوْمُ صَدَقَ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Fast by sighting and break your fast by sighting, and the sighting of the crescent is not that one or two men come and say: 'We saw it!' Indeed, the sighting is when a person says: 'I saw it!' and the people say: 'He spoke the truth!' (because the people also saw it clearly)!'

5 عن أَبِي أَيُّوبَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الْخَرَّازِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ كَمْ يُجْزِي فِي رُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ فَرِيضَةٌ مِنْ فَرَائِضِ اللَّهِ فَلَا تُؤَدُّوا بِالتَّظَنِّي وَ لَيْسَ رُؤْيَةُ الْهِلَالِ أَنْ يَقُومَ عِدَّةٌ فَيَقُولَ وَاحِدٌ قَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ وَ يَقُولَ الْآخَرُونَ لَمْ نَرَهُ إِذَا رَآهُ وَاحِدٌ رَآهُ مِائَةٌ وَ إِذَا رَآهُ مِائَةٌ رَآهُ أَلْفٌ وَ لَا يُجْزِي فِي رُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ عِلَّةٌ أَقَلُّ مِنْ شَهَادَةِ خَمْسِينَ وَ إِذَا كَانَتْ فِي السَّمَاءِ عِلَّةٌ قُبِلَتْ شَهَادَةُ رَجُلَيْنِ يَدْخُلَانِ وَ يَخْرُجَانِ مِنْ مِصْر

Abu Ayyub said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'How many people are sufficient for the sighting of the crescent?' The Imam said: 'Indeed, the month of Ramadan is an obligation from the divine obligations, so do not perform it with conjecture. And the sighting of the crescent is not that a number of people stand and one says: 'I saw it,' and the others say: 'We did not see it!' (The sighting is that) if one person sees it, a hundred people will also see it, and if a hundred people see it, a thousand people will also see it.'

👈 'And if there is no obstruction in the sky, the testimony of no less than 50 people is sufficient for the sighting of the crescent. And if there is an obstruction in the sky, the testimony of two men who come and go in the city is accepted!'

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, doubt and conjecture, and a camera with so many megapixels mounted on a certain telescope, are not a reason to prove the month. And if the sky is clear, it should be in such a way that if one person sees it, a thousand people will also see it.

✅ The Lord of the Worlds is pleased with our fasting in this manner, and even if not a single person out of hundreds of millions of people in the Middle East and surrounding areas claims to have seen it with the naked eye, there is no need to be stressed, and the duty is clear.
