✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1 عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْن الْمُرْتَضَى فِي رِسَالَةِ الْمُحْكَمِ و الْمُتَشَابِه نَقْلًا مِنْ تَفْسِير النُّعْمَانِيِّ بِإِسْنَادِه عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: وَ أَمَّا حُدُودُ الصَّوْمِ فَأَرْبَعَةُ حُدُودٍ أَوَّلُهَا اجْتِنَابُ الْأَكْلِ و الشُّرْبِ وَ الثَّانِي اجْتِنَابُ النِّكَاحِ و الثَّالِثُ اجْتِنَابُ الْقَيْ ءِ مُتَعَمِّداً و الرَّابِعُ اجْتِنَابُ الِاغْتِمَاسِ فِي الْمَاءِ و مَا يَتَّصِلُ بِهَا وَ مَا يَجْرِي مَجْرَاهَا مِنَ السُّنَنُ كُلِّهَا

Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: The limits of fasting are four things: The first is refraining from eating and drinking. The second is refraining from sexual intercourse. The third is refraining from intentional vomiting. And the fourth is refraining from submerging oneself in water and what is connected to all of the sunnahs and runs in their place.

✅ The main things that break the fast are limited and specified. But according to the end of the hadith, there are also sunnahs that are connected to those things that break the fast and run in their place.

✅ But the question that arises and the big doubt that is created is:

"Is injecting blood, serum, and nutritional shots eating or drinking or does it run in the place of drinking and eating"?

✅ Due to this question being raised on the one hand and to avoid speaking without knowledge on the other hand, we need a very important principle in Shiite jurisprudence to know our duty in such cases, and that principle is caution:

2 عبدالرَّحْمَن بْن الْحَجَّاج قال: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَن عَنْ رَجُلَيْن أَصَابَا صَيْداً وَ هُمَا مُحْرِمَانِ الْجَزَاءُ بَيْنَهُمَا أَوْ عَلَى كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا جَزَاءٌ قَالَ لَا بَلْ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يَجْزِيَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا الصَّيْد...فَقَالَ إِذَا أَصَبْتُمْ مِثْلَ هَذَا فَلَمْ تَدْرُوا فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالاحْتِيَاطِ حَتَّى تَسْأَلُوا عَنْهُ فَتَعْلَمُوا

Imam Kazim, peace be upon him, regarding two people in a state of ihram who had hunted and did not know whether both of them had to pay a penalty or only one of them, said: When you are afflicted with such cases and you do not know, it is incumbent upon you to be cautious until you ask about it and gain knowledge!

3 عن أَبِي شيبة عن أَحدهما قال في حَدِيثٍ الْوُقُوفُ عِنْد الشُّبْهَةِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الِاقْتِحَام في الْهَلَكَة

Abu Shaybah narrated from Imam Baqir or Imam Sadiq, peace be upon them, that he said: Stopping at doubtful matters is better than falling into destruction unexpectedly.

4 Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said in a hadith: And indeed, there are three categories of matters: a matter whose guidance is clear and is followed, a matter whose deviation is clear and is avoided, and a difficult matter whose knowledge is referred back to Allah (and His Messenger). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: A halal is clear and a haram is clear, and there are doubtful matters between these two, so whoever leaves the doubtful matters is saved from the forbidden things, and whoever takes and acts on the doubtful matters, commits forbidden things and falls into destruction from where he does not realize and is not aware.

✅ It should be known that the command to be cautious in doubtful matters is like the direct rulings of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, and one cannot shirk it in any way.

✅ The things that invalidate fasting and are prohibited during fasting have been mentioned in various narrations in Shiite jurisprudence. Since the injection of blood, serum, and nutritional shots did not exist at the time of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, we do not have a specific narration on whether they are prohibited or not while fasting, and on the other hand, nutritional serums, blood, and some shots transfer a type of food and strength to the person's body, and here the matter becomes doubtful for us whether it invalidates the fast or not? And on the other hand, it is the time of occultation, and we do not have access to the Imam, peace be upon him, so for this issue, we use the general narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, and we are obligated to avoid these things while fasting.

✅ Of course, non-nutritional and non-strengthening shots do not fall under this doubt.

✅ Furthermore, a person in a state of necessity has his own specific rulings.

✅ Numerous narrations about caution in religion and stopping at doubtful matters are available in Shiite narrative books, which, given that we are in the time of the occultation of the Master of the Command, peace be upon him, and the emergence of new and contemporary issues, have great application for the followers of the two weighty things, and the issue of injecting blood, serum, and nutritional and strengthening shots while fasting is one of the examples of these doubtful matters that we act cautiously on in order to be saved and protected from forbidden things and not to fall into destruction, and we are obligated to leave it.
