✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1 عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَمْراً فَخُذْ سِتَّ رِقَاعٍ فَاكْتُبْ فِي ثَلَاثٍ مِنْهَا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ خِيَرَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ لِفُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانَةَ افْعَلْ وَ فِي ثَلَاثٍ مِنْهَا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ خِيَرَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ لِفُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانَةَ لَا تَفْعَلْ- ثُمَّ ضَعْهَا تَحْتَ مُصَلَّاكَ ثُمَّ صَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَاسْجُدْ سَجْدَةً وَ قُلْ فِيهَا مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ- أَسْتَخِيرُ اللَّهَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ خِيَرَةً فِي عَافِيَةٍ- ثُمَّ اسْتَوِ جَالِساً وَ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ خِرْ لِي وَ اخْتَرْ لِي فِي جَمِيعِ أُمُورِي فِي يُسْرٍ مِنْكَ وَ عَافِيَةٍ- ثُمَّ اضْرِبْ بِيَدِكَ إِلَى الرِّقَاعِ فَشَوِّشْهَا وَ أَخْرِجْ وَاحِدَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِنْ خَرَجَ ثَلَاثٌ مُتَوَالِيَاتٌ افْعَلْ فَافْعَلِ الْأَمْرَ الَّذِي تُرِيدُهُ وَ إِنْ خَرَجَ ثَلَاثٌ مُتَوَالِيَاتٌ لَا تَفْعَلْ فَلَا تَفْعَلْهُ وَ إِنْ خَرَجَتْ وَاحِدَةٌ افْعَلْ وَ الْأُخْرَى لَا تَفْعَلْ فَأَخْرِجْ مِنَ الرِّقَاعِ إِلَى خَمْسٍ فَانْظُرْ أَكْثَرَهَا فَاعْمَلْ بِهِ وَ دَعِ السَّادِسَةَ لَا تَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهَا

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 470

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you intend to do something, take six pieces of paper. On three of them, write:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ خِيَرَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ لِفُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانَةَ افْعَلْ

And on the other three, write:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ خِيَرَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ لِفُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانَةَ لَا تَفْعَلْ

Then, place them under your prayer mat, pray two Rak’ahs, and when you finish the prayer, go into prostration and say 100 times:

أَسْتَخِيرُ اللَّهَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ خِيَرَةً فِي عَافِيَةٍ

Then sit up straight and say:

اللَّهُمَّ خِرْ لِي وَ اخْتَرْ لِي فِي جَمِيعِ أُمُورِي فِي يُسْرٍ مِنْكَ وَ عَافِيَةٍ

Then, touch the papers, shuffle them, and start drawing them one by one. If three consecutive papers say 'Do it' (افْعَلْ), proceed with your intention. If three consecutive papers say 'Do not do it' (لَا تَفْعَلْ), abandon your intention. If you get a mix of 'Do it' and 'Do not do it,' continue drawing until you have drawn five papers and act according to the majority. Ignore the sixth paper as it is unnecessary!

✅ Istikhara Riqāʿ is one of the well-known forms of Istikhara, narrated in this manner by Sheikh Kulayni and others.

Instead of 'So-and-so, son of So-and-so,' the name of the person seeking guidance and their mother’s name should be written on the papers.

✅ If the first three drawn papers are mixed, continue drawing until you have five papers, where three will be alike and two will be alike. Follow the majority. If the ending phrase of the papers says 'Do not do it' (لَا تَفْعَلْ), it indicates abandoning the action. If it says 'Do it' (إفْعَلْ), it indicates proceeding with the action.

✅ Pay attention to the following narration as well:

2 Ali ibn Muhammad narrated in an elevated chain from Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) that one of their companions asked about making a decision when there was no one to consult. The Imam replied: Consult your Lord!

So he asked: How?

The Imam said: Make your intention in your heart, then take two papers—on one, write 'No' (لَا), and on the other, write 'Yes' (نَعَمْ). Place each inside a ball of clay. Then pray two Rak’ahs, place the two clay balls under your garment, and say:

یَا اللَّهُ إِنِّی أُشَاوِرُکَ فِی أَمْرِی هَذَا وَ أَنْتَ خَیْرُ مُسْتَشَارٍ وَ مُشِیرٍ فَأَشِرْ عَلَیَّ بِمَا فِیهِ صَلَاحٌ وَ حُسْنُ عَاقِبَةٍ

Then reach in and pick one. If it says 'Yes' (نَعَمْ), proceed with the action; if it says 'No' (لَا), do not proceed. This is how you consult your Lord!
