Question 983: Is there a problem with reciting the Quran in the bath (hammam)?
Answer
✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 502
Muhammad ibn Muslim said: I asked Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him): 'Did Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) forbid the recitation of the Quran in a public bath?'
The Imam said: 'No! He forbade a person from reciting while naked, but if he has a loincloth, there is no problem!'
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 502
Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no problem for a person to recite the Quran in a public bath, as long as his intention is for the sake of Allah and he does not want to see what his voice and sound are like!'
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 377
Abu Basir said: I asked (Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him) about recitation in a public bath. The Imam said: 'If you have a loincloth on, if you wish, you can recite the entire Quran!'
✅ From the above narrations and others, it is clear that permission to recite the entire Quran in a public bath has been given under two conditions:
1 Not to be naked and to be wearing a loincloth.
2 The intention of reciting the Quran should be for the sake of Allah and not to check how one's voice sounds!
✅ It is clear that if one is naked, reciting the Quran is forbidden.
