1 عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْوَاسِطِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى الرِّضَا إِذَا انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَ الْقَمَرُ وَ أَنَا رَاكِبٌ لَا أَقْدِرُ عَلَى النُّزُولِ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مَرْكَبِكَ الَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ.

Ali ibn Fadl al-Wasiti said: I wrote a letter to Imam Reza, peace be upon him, asking: 'What should I do if a solar or lunar eclipse occurs while I am on a mount and cannot dismount?'

The Imam wrote to me: 'Recite the prayer (Salat al-Ayat) while you are on your mount!'

2 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ شَيْئاً مِنَ الْفُرُوضِ رَاكِباً قَالَ لَا إِلَّا مِنْ ضَرُورَةٍ.

Abdullah ibn Sinan said: I said to Imam Sadegh, peace be upon him: 'Should a person recite any of the obligatory prayers while on a mount?' He replied: 'No, except in cases of necessity!'

3 عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: صَلَاةُ الْكُسُوفِ فَرِيضَةٌ.

Imam Sadegh, peace be upon him, said: 'The eclipse prayer is an obligatory prayer!'

4 عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: قَالَ: وَقْتُ صَلَاةِ الْكُسُوفِ فِي السَّاعَةِ الَّتِي تَنْكَسِفُ عِنْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَ عِنْدَ غُرُوبِهَا الْحَدِيثَ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 464

Imam Sadegh, peace be upon him, said: 'The time for the eclipse prayer is at the very moment of the eclipse, whether at sunrise or sunset!'

✅ According to the above and other narrations, the special eclipse prayer is one of the obligatory prayers that is recited during a solar or lunar eclipse, an earthquake, or other fearful signs. If a person is on a mount (or vehicle) when it becomes obligatory and cannot dismount, they should perform the eclipse prayer while mounted due to this necessity. However, according to narration 2 , in non-necessary situations where they can perform the prayer in its proper time, they cannot perform it while on a mount.
