Answer
✅Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:
1️⃣ Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said:
📚 Ghurar al-Hikam
Imam 'Ali (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Whoever's thoughts about sins increase, sins will drag him towards themselves!'
📚 Ghurar al-Hikam
Imam 'Ali (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Whoever's thoughts about pleasures increase, pleasures will overpower him.'
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 5, p. 542
Imam Sadiq (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Indeed, Jesus, upon our Prophet and his family and him be peace, said to his disciples: 'Indeed, Moses, upon our Prophet and his family and him be peace, commanded you not to swear a false oath by Allah, and I command you not to swear a false oath by Allah or a true oath!'
The disciples said: 'Tell us more!'
He said: 'Indeed, Moses (peace be upon him) commanded you not to commit adultery, and I command you not to even have a private thought or a passing thought of adultery, let alone commit adultery. For whoever has a private thought and a passing thought of adultery is like someone who lights a fire in a decorated room; the smoke spoils and ruins the decorations, even if the room does not catch fire!'
📚 Qurb al-Isnad, 6
Imam Sadiq (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'If the people of wickedness were to be held accountable for their intentions, then whoever intended to commit adultery would be held accountable for adultery, and whoever intended to steal would be held accountable for it, and whoever intended to kill would be held accountable for it. But Allah is just and generous, and injustice is not from His nature. Rather, He rewards the people of good for their intentions and for having them in their hearts, but He does not hold the people of wickedness accountable (for their intentions) until they perform the act!'
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 428
Imam Baqir or Imam Sadiq (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Indeed, Allah (the Blessed and Exalted) has decreed for Adam (peace be upon him) regarding his offspring that if someone intends and resolves to do a good deed and does not do it, one good deed is written for him. And whoever resolves to do a good deed and does it, ten are written for him. And whoever resolves to do a sin and does not do it, nothing is written for him. And whoever resolves to do a sin and does it, one sin is written for him!'
✅ According to the above narrations and others, although the resolve, thought, and intention of a practical sin do not cause a sin to be written for a person until he performs the sin, excessive thinking about sins and pleasures leads to being dragged into sin and pleasures overpowering the person. A private thought of a sin like adultery is likened to a decorated room in which a fire is lit, and its smoke spoils the decorations of the house, even if the room itself does not catch fire. So, Insha'Allah, we should separate ourselves from the thought of sins and pleasures and only have divine obedience and good deeds in our thoughts and intentions.
✅ The discussion of sins of the heart will be examined in its own place.
