This person slaughtered a sheep and brought some of its meat to me. Can I eat this meat?

The slaughter of an apostate

✅Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1 قَالَ أَمِیرُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ الْمُرْتَدُّ تُعْزَلُ عَنْهُ امْرَأَتُهُ وَ لَا تُؤْکَلُ ذَبِیحَتُهُ وَ یُسْتَتَابُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَیَّامٍ فَإِنْ تَابَ وَ إِلَّا قُتِلَ یَوْمَ الرَّابِعِ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 258

Amir al-Mu'minin (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'The apostate man's wife is separated and removed from him, his slaughtered animal is not eaten, and he is asked to repent for three days. If he repents, then it's fine, otherwise, he is to be killed (by a just judge)!'

✅ The above narration is about a 'milli' apostate.

2 عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ الْأَعْشَى قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ ذَبَائِحِ الْيَهُودِ وَ النَّصَارَى فَقَالَ الذَّبِيحَةُ اسْمٌ وَ لَا يُؤْمَنُ عَلَى الِاسْمِ إِلَّا مُسْلِمٌ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 240

Qutaybah said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the slaughtered animals of the Jews and Christians. He said: 'Slaughtering is about the name (i.e., mentioning the name of Allah on it), and no one is considered trustworthy to mention the name of Allah except a Muslim!'

3 عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَلِيّاً كَانَ يَقُولُ لَا يَذْبَحْ نُسُكَكُمْ إِلَّا أَهْلُ مِلَّتِكُمْ.....

📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 9, p. 67

Amir al-Mu'minin (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: 'Let no one slaughter your sacrifice except a person from your own religion (i.e., a Muslim)!'

✅ According to the first narration, the slaughtered animal of an apostate cannot be eaten. Also, in other narrations, it is emphasized that no one is considered trustworthy for the slaughter except a Muslim. Therefore, a person who denies the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) is an apostate and is not a Muslim, and his slaughtered animal cannot be eaten.
