عَنْ شِهَابِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْحَارِثِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُعَلًّی عَنْ إِدْرِیسَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ یَحْیَی بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ قَالَ کُنَّا نَتَعَلَّمُ الِاسْتِخَارَةَ کَمَا نَتَعَلَّمُ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

📚 Wasail al-Shia 30-volume, Vol. 8, p. 66

Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'We used to learn how to perform istikhara just as we would learn a surah from the Quran.'

✅ Explanation: Upon careful examination of the narrations in reliable books, no case is found where companions came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) or the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and asked them to perform istikhara for them. For this reason, performing istikhara for others has no narrational basis. Due to the importance of istikhara in a believer's life, it is necessary for all of us to strive to learn the different types of istikhara mentioned in the narrations and use them when needed. Because if we entrust the istikhara to others, contrary to the Sunnah, it is not clear whether we will get the correct result.
