Abu Basir said: I asked the Imam (Sadiq, peace be upon him) about a person who joins the congregational prayer when the Imam is saying the salutation. The Imam said: 'It is not obligatory for him to repeat the Adhan; he should join them in their Adhan. However, if he finds that they have dispersed, he should repeat the Adhan!'

He said: 'If he enters while the prayer rows have not yet dispersed, he should pray with their Adhan and Iqamah. If the rows have dispersed, he should say the Adhan and Iqamah!'

Abu Maryam al-Ansari said: 'Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) led us in prayer wearing a single (Arab) shirt, without a waistcloth or cloak, and without Adhan or Iqamah!'

When they finished the prayer, I said to him: 'May Allah grant you well-being, you led us in prayer in a single shirt, without a waistcloth or cloak, and without Adhan or Iqamah?!' He said: 'Indeed, my shirt was thick, and it sufficed so that I did not need a waistcloth or cloak. And I passed by Ja'far (peace be upon him) and he was saying the Adhan and Iqamah, and I did not speak, so his Adhan and Iqamah sufficed for me!'

6 عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَر قال: كُنَّا مَعَهُ فَسَمِعَ إِقَامَةَ جَارٍ لَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ قُومُوا فَقُمْنَا فَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَ لَا إِقَامَةٍ وَ قَالَ يُجْزِئُكُمْ أَذَانُ جَارِكُمْ

Amr ibn Khalid said: 'We were with Imam Baqir (peace be upon him), and he heard the sound of his neighbor's Iqamah for prayer. He then said: 'Stand up!' So we stood up and prayed with him in a congregation, and he said: 'The Adhan of your neighbor is sufficient for you!'

7 عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: إِذَا أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنٌ فَنَقَصَ الْأَذَانَ وَ أَنْتَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ بِأَذَانِهِ فَأَتِمَّ مَا نَقَصَ هُوَ مِنْ أَذَانِهِ
