Question 98: Is it true that if we don't say 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' at the beginning of our tasks, we will face problems? What is the hadith about this? And what happens if we forget to say it?

✅ Answer: Pay attention to one of the narrations on this matter:

📚 *Tawhid* by Saduq, p. 231

Translation: Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS) said in a narration: Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said: It is possible that one of our Shi'ah might neglect saying 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' at the beginning of their task, so Allah tests them with some difficulty or misfortune to awaken them to thank Allah and praise Him. This is to eliminate the defect and shortcoming caused by their neglect of saying 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim'.

✅ It is unlikely that the Shi'ah of Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) would deliberately neglect saying 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' at the beginning of all their tasks. As for cases where it happens due to forgetfulness or haste, we follow the following hadith to protect ourselves from its consequences:

📚 *Kafi*, Vol. 2, p. 523

Translation: Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said: Indeed, when Imam al-Sajjad (AS) would start his day, he would say:

Translation: 'I begin this day in the name of Allah and as Allah wills, to protect me from forgetfulness and haste.'

So when a servant does this, it suffices them for the things they forget throughout the day.

✅ Explanation: This means that when one says this phrase at the beginning of the day, it will suffice them for any tasks they forget to begin with 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' throughout the day.

Note: Also pay attention to the following narration:

📚 *Mahasin*, Vol. 2, p. 4

Translation: Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said: When one of you performs ablution and does not say 'Bismillah', Satan becomes a partner in their ablution. Likewise, if they eat, drink, or wear clothing, and any task they perform, it is appropriate for them to say 'Bismillah'. If they do not, Satan becomes a partner in that action.
