Question 771: If the previous limbs dry up during ablution, does the ablution have to be repeated?
Answer
✅Answer:
📚Kafi, Vol. 1, p. 35
Muawiyah ibn Ammar said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Sometimes I am performing ablution, and then the water runs out, so I call the maid, but she delays in bringing the water, and as a result, my ablution dries up!
The Imam said: Repeat your ablution!
📚Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 35
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When you perform part of your ablution and something happens to you until the water of your ablution dries up, then repeat your ablution because ablution is not done in parts!
📚Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 34
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Perform ablution consecutively (i.e., in order), just as Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, has said: Begin with the face and then the two hands and then wipe the head and the two feet and do not put one thing before another so that you oppose what you have been commanded. So if you wash the hand before the face, then begin with the face and repeat the washing of the hand, and if you wipe the foot before the head, then wipe the head before the foot and then repeat the wiping of the foot. Begin with what Allah, the Exalted and Glorified, has begun with!
📚Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 34
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Do each part of the ablution after the other!
📚Ilal al-Shara'i, p. 289, hadith 1
Hakam said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a person who forgets to wash the hand and wipe the head in ablution; he said: Such a person repeats the ablution, for ablution is done consecutively!
📚Al-Muqni', p. 6
Shaykh Saduq in the book Al-Muqni', which he testified that its contents are from the narrations of the Shia sheikhs and its chains of narration have been omitted, stated: If you were performing ablution and the water ran out before you finished, and then water was brought to you, then complete your ablution if what you have washed is still wet, and if it has dried up, repeat your ablution. And if, without the water running out, part of your ablution dried up before you finished, wash the rest of it, whether your ablution has dried up or not!
📚Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 60
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): If you forget to wipe your head, then wipe your head and your two feet with the moisture of the ablution... until he said: If nothing remains from the moisture of your ablution, you repeat the ablution!
✅According to the verse of ablution and the above narrations and others, the order between the limbs of ablution is obligatory according to: face, right hand, left hand, wiping the head, and then wiping the feet.
In addition to the order, one is obligated to perform the ablution successively (muwalat) and without interruption. If, due to the water running out or something happening, a break occurs during the ablution, the ablution is only valid and can be continued if the previous limbs have not dried up. If they have dried up, one is obligated to repeat the ablution from the beginning. But if, during a successive ablution, part of the previous limbs dries up for some reason, according to hadith 6, one should continue and finish the ablution.
