📚 Amali al-Saduq, p. 84
Imam Ridha (peace be upon him) narrated from his ancestors: Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said regarding the sermon of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) on the virtue of the month of Ramadan: 'So I stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what are the best deeds in this month?' The Prophet said: 'O Ali, the best deeds in this month are piety and abstinence from the forbidden things of Allah!''
✅ Among the many deeds that have been mentioned in the narrations for the month of Ramadan, according to the above narration, the best deed is piety and abstinence from forbidden things, which Ahl al-Hadith (people of hadith) should pay special attention to.
On this occasion, a few hadiths about piety are presented:
📚 Ma'ani al-Akhbar, p. 252, Hadith 1
Fudayl said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'Who is the most pious person among people?' He said: 'The one who abstains from the forbidden things of Allah and stays away from these (the Abbasid rulers and others)!'
'So if he does not abstain from doubts, he falls into forbidden things without knowing it. And if he sees a reprehensible matter but does not object to it despite having the power to do so, he has loved that Allah be disobeyed, and whoever loves that Allah be disobeyed has indeed manifested enmity towards Allah!'
'And whoever loves the survival of the oppressors, he has indeed loved that Allah be disobeyed. Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has praised Himself for destroying the oppressors and has said (in Surah Al-An'am, verse 45):'
'So the back of those who did wrong was cut off; and all praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds!'
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 77
Hafs ibn Ghiyath said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the most pious person among people. He said: 'The one who avoids and abstains from the forbidden things of Allah, the Mighty and Exalted!'
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 4, p. 360
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said in his will to Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him): 'Whoever avoids the forbidden things of Allah is the most pious of people!'
📚 Nahj al-Balagha, 3-177-113
Ali (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no piety like stopping at doubtful matters!'
✅ The meaning of piety as the best deed in the month of Ramadan has been interpreted in the above narrations and others as abstaining from forbidden things, staying away from oppressive rulers, and stopping at doubtful matters, etc. Of course, identifying forbidden things and doubtful matters requires jurisprudence in the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), and in this regard, I ask all lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) to be very diligent in the obligation of seeking knowledge and jurisprudence in religion, and also to know that:
📚 Sifat al-Shi'ah, p. 11
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Our guardianship is not attained except through action and piety!'
And:
7 Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'An effort in which there is no piety is of no benefit!'
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 77
