Question 88: If I doubt whether I have prayed one rak'ah or two rak'ahs in a voluntary prayer, is it invalid? What should I do?

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 3, p. 359

Translation: Muhammad ibn Muslim said: I asked Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq (AS) about forgetting in a voluntary prayer. The Imam replied: There is nothing upon you.

Explanation: This means that you do not need to repeat the prayer or perform the prostration of forgetfulness, and the prayer is not invalid.

As for what to do in the case of forgetfulness in a voluntary prayer, the following narration has been mentioned:

📚 *Al-Kafi*, Vol. 3, p. 359

Translation: Al-Kulaini said: It is narrated that if one forgets in a voluntary prayer, they should base it on the lesser number of rak'ahs.
