Question 146: In the prayer for the day of Eid al-Ghadir, it is stated that one should pray two units (rak'ahs), and in each unit, recite Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul Huwallahu Ahad), Ayat al-Kursi, and Surah al-Qadr (Inna Anzalnahu), each ten times.
Answer
Is 'Ayat al-Kursi' until 'wa huwa al-'Ali al-'Adhim' or until 'hum fiha khalidun'?
✅Answer:
Although there is a slight ambiguity in the answer to this question, there are evidences in narrations that Ayat al-Kursi is only the first verse, up to 'wa huwa al-'Ali al-'Adhim.'
For example, two pieces of evidence are mentioned:
📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 94
Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Whoever recites four verses from the beginning of Surah al-Baqarah, Ayat al-Kursi, the two verses after Ayat al-Kursi, and the last three verses of Surah al-Baqarah will not see anything unpleasant in his soul or property, and Satan will not come near him, and he will not forget the Qur'an!'
2 Narrated by Ali ibn al-Husayn, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Whoever recites the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, Ayat al-Kursi, the two verses after it, and the last three verses of it, will not see any evil that he dislikes in his soul or property, and Satan will not come near him, and he will not forget the Qur'an. And whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi when he goes to sleep will not fear paralysis, and Allah will appoint 50,000 angels to protect him until morning, and indeed there are fifty words in it, in each word there are fifty blessings, and everything has a peak, and the peak of the Qur'an is Ayat al-Kursi.'
📚 A'lam al-Din fi Sifat al-Mu'minin
p. 369
Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever recites the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, Ayat al-Kursi, the two verses after Ayat al-Kursi, and the last three verses of Surah al-Baqarah will not see any evil that he dislikes in his soul or property, and Satan will not come near him, and he will not forget the Qur'an. And whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi when he goes to sleep will not fear being afflicted by paralysis (of one side of the body), and Allah will appoint 50,000 angels to protect him until morning, and indeed there are fifty words in Ayat al-Kursi, in each word there are fifty blessings, and everything has a peak, and the peak of the Qur'an is Ayat al-Kursi.'
The Virtue of Ayat al-Kursi
✅ A necessary condition for Ayat al-Kursi to have 50 words is that it is only the first verse, which has approximately 50 words.
✅Note 1: In some instances, the recitation of the two verses after Ayat al-Kursi is also mentioned. In such cases, we recite the two subsequent verses as well. However, in cases where only the recitation of Ayat al-Kursi is mentioned, it is sufficient to recite only the first verse up to 'wa huwa al-'Ali al-'Adhim.'
✅Note 2: According to the narration in 📚 Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 143, if the prayer for the day of Eid al-Ghadir is missed, it can be made up (qada') along with its accompanying supplication. Due to its great reward, it is recommended that it be made up.
