✅Answer: The principles received from the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, do not include the prohibition of flying in an airplane because of the presence of jinn in the air.

However, what is prohibited is a ceiling that is more than 7 or 8 cubits high:

1 أَبِي عبداللَّه قال: إِذَا كَانَ سَمْكُ الْبَيْتِ فَوْقَ سَبْعَةِ أَذْرُعٍ أَوْ قَالَ ثَمَانِيَةِ أَذْرُعٍ كَانَ مَا فَوْقَ السَّبْعِ أَوِ الثَّمَانِ مُحْتَضَراً وَ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ مَسْكُوناً

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: If the ceiling of a room is more than 7 or 8 cubits (about 3.5 or 4 meters), what is higher than 7 or 8 cubits is a place of presence, and one of the narrators said: It is a place of residence!

2 عن أَبِي عبداللَّه قال: إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَكَّلَ مَلَكاً بِالْبِنَاءِ يَقُولُ لِمَنْ رَفَعَ سَقْفاً فَوْقَ ثَمَانِيَةِ أَذْرُعٍ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ يَا فَاسِقُ

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Indeed, Allah Almighty has appointed an angel to the building who says to whoever raises a ceiling more than 8 cubits: Where do you intend to go, O immoral one?!

3 شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى أبي جعفر و قال أَخْرَجَتْنَا الْجِنُّ عَنْ مَنَازِلِنَا فَقَالَ اجْعَلُوا سُقُوفَ بُيُوتِكُمْ سَبْعَةَ أَذْرُعٍ وَ اجْعَلُوا الْحَمَامَ فِي أَكْنَافِ الدَّارِ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ فَفَعَلْنَا ذَلِكَ فَمَا رَأَيْنَا شَيْئاً نَكْرَهُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِك

A man complained to Imam Baqir, peace be upon him, and said: The jinn have driven us out of our house!

The Imam said: Make the ceiling of your rooms (at most) 7 cubits high and keep pigeons around the house!

The man said: We did this, and after that, we did not see anything unpleasant!

4 قال أبوعبداللَّه ابْنِ بَيْتَكَ سَبْعَةَ أَذْرُعٍ فما كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ سَكَنَتْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَيْسَتْ فِي السَّمَاءِ و لا في الْأَرْضِ و إِنَّمَا تَسْكُنُ الْهَوَاءَ

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Build your room 7 cubits high, for what is after that, the devils reside in it! Indeed, the devils are neither in the sky nor on the earth, but rather they reside in the air!

5 عن أَبِي عبداللَّه قال: سَمْكُ الْبَيْتِ سَبْعَةُ أَذْرُعٍ أَوْ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَذْرُعٍ فَمَا فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ فَمُحْتَضَرٌ

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The ceiling of a room (i.e., the space between the floor and the ceiling of any room) is 7 or 8 cubits, so more than that is a place of presence (for devils and jinn)!

6 عن أبي عبداللَّه قال: إِذَا بَنَى الرَّجُلُ فَوْقَ ثَمَانِيَةِ أَذْرُعٍ نُودِيَ يا أَفْسَقَ الْفَاسِقِينَ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: When a person builds a building more than 8 cubits high, it is called out to him: O most immoral of the immoral! Where do you intend to go?!

7 عن أَبِي عبداللَّه قال: شَكَا إِلَيْه رَجُلٌ عَبَثَ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ بِأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَ بِعِيَالِهِ فَقَالَ كَمْ سَقْفُ بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ عَشَرَةُ أَذْرُعٍ فقال اذْرَعْ ثَمَانِيَةَ أَذْرُعٍ ثُمَّ اكْتُبْ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ فِيمَا بَيْنَ الثَّمَانِيَةِ إِلَى الْعَشَرَةِ كَمَا تَدُورُ فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بَيْتٍ سَمْكُهُ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ ثَمَانِيَةِ أَذْرُع فَهُوَ مُحْتَضَرٌ تَحْضُرُهُ الْجِنُّ تَكُونُ فِيهِ مسْكنُهُ

A man complained to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about the people of the earth (i.e., the jinn) playing with his family and household!

The Imam said: How high is the ceiling of your room? He said: Ten cubits!

The Imam said: Measure 8 cubits and write Ayat al-Kursi around the area between 8 and 10 cubits, for every room whose ceiling (i.e., the space between the floor and the ceiling) is more than 8 cubits high is a place of presence, and the jinn are present and reside in it!

8 Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: When the (height of the) room is more than 8 cubits, write Ayat al-Kursi on top of it!

9 Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The ceiling of the house, when it is raised more than 8 cubits, is a place of residence, so when it is more than 8 cubits, Ayat al-Kursi must be written on top of the 8 cubit mark!

✅ In the above narrations, raising the ceiling and the height of a room and building, i.e., the distance between its floor and its ceiling, to more than 8 cubits, which is about 4 meters, has been criticized and causes the presence of jinn and devils and its subsequent consequences.

Unfortunately, without paying attention to these narrations, even the ceilings of some mosques have been built higher than 8 cubits!

However, if a person has committed the prohibited act of building a ceiling more than 8 cubits high, the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, have recommended that they protect themselves from its consequences by writing Ayat al-Kursi on top of the eight cubit mark and keeping pigeons in the corner of the house.
