Question 80: Is 'Abu Salih' one of the titles or names of Imam Mahdi (AS)?
✅Answer: In the narrations and supplications related to our master, Baqiyatullah (AS), such a title or name has not been observed. Therefore, addressing Imam Mahdi with this title has no basis in narrations.
It seems that a misunderstanding or misconception has led to this attribution.
Consider the following three narrations:
📚Man La Yahduruhu Al-Faqih, Vol. 2, p. 298
Translation: Imam Sadiq (AS) said: When you lose your way, call out: 'O Salih' or 'O Abu Salih,' guide us to the path, may Allah have mercy on you.
📚Man La Yahduruhu Al-Faqih, Vol. 2, p. 298
Translation: Sheikh al-Saduq said: It has been narrated that the land is entrusted to 'Salih' and the sea to 'Hamza.'
📚Al-Khisal, Vol. 2, p. 618
Translation: Amir al-Mu’minin (AS) said in his collection of four hundred hadiths: If any of you gets lost while traveling or fears for his life, let him call out: 'O Salih, help me!' For among your brethren from the jinn, there is a jinn named 'Salih' who roams the lands to serve you. If he hears your call, he will respond, guide those who are lost, and stop a runaway mount.
Explanation: Some may have mistakenly assumed that calling this name and experiencing the presence of this jinn for guidance means he is the Imam. However, naming or attributing titles to the Imams (AS) should be based on established narrations and supplications to avoid falling into error.
